Rear brakes

How come the 96 Impreza OBS had 10.1" rear discs, but in 97 they reverted to the 9" drums? How big of a task would it be to swap in a pair from a 96, or 02+?

My guess is one of two things. Either cost, or because of the age market the Imprezza was aimed at, they designed it for the driving. About 70% of your braking goes to the front anyway (On normal braking) As far as swapping, you got me. I'd have to see it.
