There are a bunch of us that play on XBOX Live... Halo 2
Some of us are to "poe" to eat at Outback. Applebees has 1/2 price appetizers on Thursdays; that's why we go there. Though, I'd be up for the Outback.

Yeah, I would like to see it, too. I live in WV, so you'd have to bring it to autocross for me to see it....and I'd also like to see what it can do lol. As for the imports thing, you may wanna broaden your horizons. Imports are cool, but so are domestics. This isn't DSMtuners....we all movFast, no matter where the car came from  Come autcross with us and you'll see what I'm talking about. Nothing's more embarassing than getting your ass stomped by a base model Neon lol. Welcome to movFast.
*edit: There's a GS-t coming with us with some decent mods (nowhere near as many as you, though). I always get on DSMtuners to help him with his Eclipse. We could probably learn a lot from you, and you might learn something from us (doubtful lol).

i will be the ecxeptin to the above post...cause mine runs like hammered dog poo..with the AFC
i am not biased to import or demostic, its funny that few domestic owners have the same views... any great car will get my respect..as stated in that post from dsmtuners i used to roll in an 02 TA...just a little over 2 years ago i lined up against a eclipse gsx with the mentality that my ls1 was an invincible engine and that i was about to teach this guy a lesson...by the time i had reached 130 this guy had pulled several car links on me and with a puff of black smoke was just gone...i have been interested in the awd turbo charged four bangers ever since then and last month i finally found a car i have been wanting for many years
as far as the car goes, i am completely green..im learning as i go mostly...there wont be to much you guys can learn from me at this time..but as things break and i repair them i will become more of an asset in the info department
most of the mods to this car was done by the previous owner...i have been disecting and upgrading and changing things i dont like...i just got done swapping in some tougher front axles and installing the front brembo discs....doing my damndest to work with that nightmare SAFC and just get the thing back in good condition fixing all the little piddly things wrong...i am not allowing myself to drive the car untill it is where i want it to be to keep me motivated to get it done...once its back in running order its going to buschurs for the stage three block and for a final tunning, and then i will show you guys what DSM is all about!!!

I've never used one, but from what I know, an SAFC is not that complicated. It's basically just an offset table... %MAF adjustment vs RPM. You also have to set the point at which the ECU switches from closed loop to open loop fuel control.
Does Dave Buschur tune with DSMLink any? I wish the Evo could use DSMLink. If you haven't heard of it, you should definatly check it out.

yeah, dsmlink is in my cars immediate future...i actually called them and was about to lay the 500 down for the ecu...but the kicker is you need a 95 ecu box because only the 95 came with the eprom chip...they said they are working to develope a system for th 96+ ecus but its a few months off from prototype phase..and probably 3 or 4 months longer before a working version is for sale...dsmlink will be the final solution to my problems...the afc works, but all it is doing is catching signals and modding them to make the computer think it still has the stock injectors...it works, but not well enough for my tastes..dsmlink is an actual ecu replacement..that works with the injector size you specify to make the car run like it came from the factory with the injectors you chose.....so think from the factory reliability and driving charectoristics except on a much higher level......after dealign with this afc, this will be like a wet dream when i can get it..
not to mention the dsmlink program gives you 100 percent controll over everything about the engine....its almost to good to be true!!!

They do there job well....if the car runs crappy...its b/c its in need of a good tune....does it have a wideband....if not, I would recommend getting one, you could basically do the majority of the tuning yourself, or with some help..... 8)

Compared to DSMLink (http://www.dsmlink.com/index.html), the SAFC is a flaming dog turd.
250-300$
SAFC
Controls:
the MAF signal
600$
DSMLink /w EPROM chip
Controls:
the MAF signal
extra fuel per RPM
timing per RPM
has some sort of anti-lag system
reads DTC(diagnostic trouble codes)
can control nitrous triggering
....and it can datalog
I rest my case

that is true, but dsmlink is full proof...you screw the settings up to bad, simply click a button and it loads itself back to the factory default.
I take it there is some rivalry between a certain evo and a certain SI here huh? LOL
this seems like a good bunch of people...i was getting sick and tired of dealign with the dsmtuners crowd...it seems like you would have to bow down and erect a shrine to get the high and mighty DSM gods over there to answer questions...they seem to forget that not everyone was born with DSM tuning knowledge

extra fuel per RPM
So it's a fuel pump...
timing per RPM
And Vtec...
has some sort of anti-lag system
Rally-style ALS...
reads DTC(diagnostic trouble codes)
The guy at AutoZone...
can control nitrous triggering
Vin Diesel...
....and it can datalog
And a Datalogger?
I'm just messing with ya Robbie, but some of that stuff is likely marketing (ALS in a computer?), sugar coating (wouldn't a change in MAF signal equal more or less fuel per RPM?), or likely never going to be used by anyone but drag racers (nawwwwsss). Datalogging, diagnostics, and timting are cool, but does it just change ignition timing or does it work like a Vtec (or similar) controller?
hmm.. im not a drag racer, i got 2 nos wet kits on 2 dif cars

i know this is going to sound kinda gay, but think fast and the furious...the dsmlink has a hardwire that runs from the ecu...when tunning it hooks up to a laptop which has a windows based tunning program...you make a run and it logs all the imformation on several dyno style graphs ranging everything from fuel at certain rpms to knock detected ( if any)..you can then go in and select via slider bars fuel increases and select what timming you want it to run...the new release i believe has several diffrent stages available where you can save and have it load what settings you want...ie. you can drive to the track at normal settings and once on the line can hit enter and have it load your drag settings...or street settings...having this program would kill all the headaches i am having right now in one package

Yeah, you made it sound a little better.
And yes, God, I was serious. Adam had a VAFC, which includes a Vtec controller. I'm assuming that ignition timing can also be advanced or RETARDED via ECU. Also assuming that it can be used on other cars (though I do realize it is called DSMlink), it would be likely that this amazing invention could do either or both of said timing adjustments. I'm not stupid. I do know you have no variable valve timing, though it would be kind of cruel to act so appalled that one might not know that had I not known that beforehand.

No. It wouldn't be, considering the amount of knowledge you usually spew out. I could have "opened up" on you about that, but I held back. I knew you knew better. No harm, no foul. Carry on.

Don't get me wrong guys, the Dsmlink is super nice, @ the time I was poor, so I settled on the Vafc.....if I had one gripe with the Apexi, was that I couldn't control timing.....for ~$150 bucks it offers some degree of tuning....vs $600...thats all I was saying.....
I would like to see someone with a Dsmlink and compare it to my Hondata...
I am sure they are very similiar.....
Good post Btw..... 8)
ShortysTRM
01-15-2005, 03:42 PM
Yeah, I think that comparing the two is like comparing a turbo-back exhaust to a muffler. The AFC is deinfinitely a good product which does what it advertises, and the same apparently goes for the DSMlink. As with the exhaust, it will only do what it says it will do (and I don't mean add 50 HP lol...more like a downpipe doesn't quiet your exhaust because it isn't supposed to) and if you pay more for something, it should be a better product. This isn't always the case, of course.
Who makes the DSMlink? I know Apex is very well known, and besides the fact that the N-1 exhaust Patrick has is aluminized and still cost nearly a grand, it is one of the better products I have seen. It took us forever to get his stock exhaust off and no time at all to put the N-1 in place of it. The fit was absolutely perfect.
