That was very wide open course. I would love to have seen the FTD guys running on it. I had fun, but I didn't do so well I don't think. I wish they would post the results...it usually only takes about 5 hours or so.

If I can find my damn A/V cables for my camera, I'll post some video. I don't have much because the weather suuuucked. I got some of Kurt's FWD drifts

results are now up:
http://www.swvrscca.org/results/Jan05raw.htm

My first FTD!! Yea. I'm pretty happy with the run. However the fastest time was my first run as the track conditions really got worse after everyones 1st run.

I tried to be quick on my second run too..don't know how it compared yet..

On the 3rd run, Jon (my wife's brother who's now co-driving all the events this year) and I said to each other that there's no way we are going to get close to my first time...so we decided to turn it into a drift contest between each other. WE had a friggin blast. That 3rd run was sooooooooooo much fun, we didn't care about time but wanted to see how much opposite lock we could pull. I saw the video today and its pretty funny. Vids should be up tomorrow afternoon.

Wot   :driving:

Good eye...but its a non-STi WRX.
There was another silver one there that had STi wheels and intercooler hood which make it look very close to mine. STi's don't have fogs.

There's 2 other STi guys in that area that have shown up to watch but haven't raced. They get all excited to run but don't show to future events.
However there were 3 other WRX's there which is always fun to see.

I couldn't see if the car in the background had fogs or not....I always thought they were there in the Sti, just covered.......seems like I read that somewhere...... 8)

Davis, you should pray for snow. You could come home with the FTD lol.

Comic Dog...I poop!  good one.,

Yea, FTD is awesome..actually didn't believe till i saw the official results. Plus the next guy was .5 seconds back, weee. I loved racing in the slick stuff, but that course was awesome in the dry. I hope we get to re-do that one again. See vids at new post in racing forum.

I won't go SM till I get my mods. (or should I?) Mods are a bit on the backorder after the x-mas expenditures:) There doesn't look to be anybody in A-stock this year unless some STi's show up. What do you think?

If you know you can beat poeple in your class, you should honestly move up....otherwise you aren't pushing youself, like I think you like too.... 8)

Good point. I can't wait til I have the loud burble of a boxer 4. There's no way I'll be staying in a stock class when I get a Suby. I have heard that the equal length headers (gorgeous, BTW) that they make for the Subys takes away a lot of that distinctive burble. That sucks.

Wise words from the FTD regulars told me last year that its best to run as much as you can in a stock class. I went to many races last year, and each time I learned more about what I can do with the car. (or what the car can do to me!)
It really depends what avenue you want to go. If you want to get faster and faster, keep car stock.
If you want to race, but still have some fun mods for street, appearance, sound whatever, go the mod route.

In drag racing, you add go fast parts and usually go faster. (driver grade normal) In AutoX, is sure seems like adding parts makes it take longer to go faster but eventually will get there.

Great to hear about your new Suby!!
BTW, I've heard of guys with borla headers and the boxer 4 rumble is still there. I'd actually lean towards a TBE much like what Robbie has. Usually cheaper, better HP results and sounds awesome.
The guy with the white STi (Geoff Johns) just had an axle back on his STi...sounded awesome.
One of the silver WRX's on Sunday had a Perrin up and downpipe and cat back. Sounded really really nice!

Good luck and take some pics if and when you get your car!!! Woot

That's $7.99/min.

I sort of agree about the mods, but I don't at the same time. I didn't autocross when I added my rear bar, but if I did, I would've had to have completely re-learrned my car. Imagine if you drove a 2.5 RS instead of an STi. Same car essentailly, right? Your's is heavily modded, albeit by an in-house factory tuner, and performs very well. Do you feel that you should've learned on a WRX? Would faster times have been easier if you had first learned on a WRX then switched to the largely different STi? I feel like the experienced guys should instead encourage people to research what setups work with cars similar to theirs and just get the modding out of the way. Suspension mods can completely change the characteristics of your car, and if I spent a year learning how to drive a Grand Am with stock suspension and then added some sway-bars, that year would have gone to waste (besides the fun part) in the sense that I would be starting all over again on learning the car's behavior.

I think if I trade or sell the Legacy I will proably get a standard, but April is making me think twice. If it's my daily driver, it will be drivin a lot and I don't want to regret the manual transmission. Then again, I would probably regret another automatic even more.

If I raced in a my 2.5RS again last year, I would've learned quicker than jumping into a 300hp car. Same goes with a WRX. I would've gone quicker when I made that jump. Don't take my word for it about stock vs. mods....talk to Bill, Sean, Brain B., and Dan W.
Look at Brian Bog. That car is basically stock. Yet he pulls some great times. (165hp) Good driver. Probably has maxed the car out with his ability.
He jumped in my car last February and showed me some pointers on a fun run. (yikes!)
I'm not saying you are wrong if you mod your car. (like I said above) I just think it depends on where you want to go with your mods. (I'll be adding some go-fast parts later this year)

Going back to the point that staying in the stock class as long as you can is beneficial....I am in SM for one of my modifications...so when i started autocrossing I was thrown in with robbie...but the more i look at it i would be screwed either way..b/c robbie in SM and Davis in Stock...either way i'd be second  I dont really care what class I am in...I am just there to further my driving skills and seeing robbie and davis running ftd's really shows me the capabilities of my car and that I have much room for improvement...Just my two cents 8)
