Well here in the time between feburary and april, ill be getting the car that is suppose to last me from now through college and onto the road of life. My question is im your typical 18yr old thats obbssed with speed, handling, the adrenaline rush, and loud speakers. My question is wat kind of car should i look at if i want something reliable and customizable. I know everyones gonna say honda and thats probably my best bet but there has to be other things out there. Thinknig the prica cap might be as high as 15 to as low as 5 . Any input would be welcome

Do you have anything in mind....let's start there......also...it would be best if you set a limit for yourself...b/c are you wanting to buy it and immediatly throw some $$ into it, or are you gonna buy something and "hope" in the future you will be able too?
Whats your thoughts.... 8)

Well my main intrest was in the Acura Rsx Type-S then i figured that was alittle out of my price range, then i started looking towards the integras and the 95-99 GST,GSX, and the Eagle Talon. I've also considered a Honda Civic for the long running reputation that they have of being reliable and long lasting and anythings possible. I've also been known to look at the prelude and accord. Guess i kinda want a car with a nice outside so i don't ahve to bodykit it and wat not. The second i got the car the stereo would be overhauled to my liking, then id want to beef up the engine and suspension and it owuld basically be done as the money allowed it.

you could find a modern RX7 (FD) for less than 15 :D smooth styling, and fast from the factory.

If you start with something at the higher end of your price cap, then its going to take longer for you to make it to your liking (adding the stereo, rims, whatever). At the same time, you're going to be more likely to find something in better shape, requiring less work, and lasting longer.
I saw a nice looking 95 VW Cabrio for 3200 down here. Nice design, convertible, 1.8T (I'm pretty sure), and easy on gas.
You could also probably find a decent mid-late 90's Civic in that same price range

Whatever you do, please save yourself the ego trip and don't buy an Sti or Evo....for whatever reason everyone I know that owns one, thinks they are better than everyone else.......and there faster or something b/c of the Awd..... 8)

I think Robbie just proved your point. He failed to note the sarcasm and had to compensate for his small...engine...with the results from autocross. And actually, I don't think STi's come with 2 sets of rims and Falken Azenis. Though I am proud of both of you, I really don't think that FTD's spaced a year and 3 months apart really prove anything. The results from '03 say from a soggy Last Chance, and yesterday was far from normal running condition. However, I would definitely love to have either of your cars and would definitely buy one if I had the money. In other words, though those times didn't prove much to me, I was already sold in the first place lol. I can't imagine buying anything but AWD when I get another car.
On a similar note, my father owns a 2002 Legacy GT. He wants me and April to drive him to Cincinnati to pick a up a black BMW Z3 3.0. He keeps saying stuff like "there's more in it for you than for me" and "it'll be worth your effort." My brother has always gotten nicer cars than mine, and in fact mine was a hand-me-down from him. He got it brand new and I got it 5 years later. My parents know that pisses me off and I'm thinking...well, ok, this is interesting. Literally, my dad just told me I get it. I get a SUBYYYYYY!!!! I think I might drive it for a few then trade it or sell it for a newer 2.5 RS (or WRX but I doubt I can afford a decent one). Well, my day just got a little better. :D

Sorry, my comments were directed at Adam. He ususlly sports the "my turbo Si is as good as an STi or Evo" mantra. I don't believe my car is the "best car" or better than everyone elses. But it is one heck of a car. I'm just doing a little defending when someone said derogatory things about me and my car.
I should have said something like this: When's the last time a streetable Honda placed in the top 5, let alone a stock one?
BTW Shorty, the stock STi tires are probably about on par with a set of Azenis. My FTD run was on the stock Yokahamas.
Can we get back on topic now?

Sunday? (they may not have been streetable, I dunno) And actually, if you're looking at cars $32,000 and under, you DO have the best car. Nothing else that cheap can touch it. It's actually faster than an STi stock for stock.
But I think what we're talking about is on topic. He never hinted towards what kind of car he wanted, and he will never find an STi or an EVO for $15K, so discussion of my newly quenched thirst for AWD (preferrably Subaru) is okay. I was kind of suggesting that he maybe get one, considering the practicality of AWD and that he is a young driver. I always wanted some high horsepower RWD car when I was young, but I'd probably be dead by now if I had gotten one. FWD is a little bit better in the snow, but it still sucks. AWD owns. It will be the new standard.

Could you find a current generation imprezza (non WRX) for less than 15k. That would be a very practical and safe car. And there is a decent number of aftermarket goodies for the imprezza. Not the fastest car on the market, but still some fun.

we have a nissan 240sx for sale that needs some work but could be an awsome car for under 4grand or you could just go all out and do an engine swap. The best things about this car are RWD and any speakers you put in it will sound 10x louder and not rattle because of the hatch.

2004 RS's are listed as like $14K on KBB.com for private party value. 2002 Legacy GT's are like $13,9. I can't remember exact prices, but they're close. There was a WRX for sale for $13,9 on autotrader I believe.
Is Bryan Price's Prelude not streetable??
Did you have to pull your head out of your ass to get your foot in your mouth? You could've just stuck my foot in your mouth since I would love to put my foot up your ass. Ankle deep.
I'm just messing around with you, but you need to think of a few things. The EVO isn't the fastest car in the workd, but it's probably the fastest on this board. Most of us that don't have an STi or an EVO wish we did, and trying to one-up the EVO is just our way of trying to make ourselves feel better about having slow cars, no money, and white penises (except Zerocool, that lucky bastard). You don't have to kick a man while he's down. Sorry for the graphic post, I was having fun.

I'm staying outta the whole foot in the mouth in the butt with white penises thing....back to subject.. a movFast'r needs advice on a new car.
I bought a Subaru 2.5RS Impreza when I first moved here from Calif. Great car, awesome in the rain, snow and a decent handling car in the dry. (later on the Prodrive suspension made it really good handlin' in dry stuff)
The engine is reliable. (EJ25) Never had a problem with it in the 5 yrs I owned it. I even AutoX'd it and did 2nd place every time. (1st was owned by a type-R with stickies...damn him:) Aftermarket stuff is much better now but many go-fast stuff is geared for the turbo'd WRX and STi.
The Nissan 240 that was mentioned above might be a really fun car. Good and reliable (my friend had one for numerous yrs.) There's alot of supprt, engine swapping, and go-fast parts for the 240. For performance I'd build up that 240. If you want a turn key reliable and fun car, perhaps you should look for a 2.5RS. (watch the insurance on the WRX's)
Hondas. I'm not a Honda guy, but you cannot deny their huge marketplace, and wealth of mods and fun things you can do to a Honda without breaking the bank.
Good Luck!

On the 2.5 Impreza RS i think i read somewhere in one of those import magazines that its almost the same was the wrx, but what i rememeber is them swapping in a wrx engine without all that much trouble, kinda seems like it would be like swapping in a sr20dett into a silvia. Just wandering if that would be possible later on down the road. And someone mentioned the VW with the 1.8T isnt there alot of aftermarket for that VW engine?

When I was in college I had to haul a lot of stuff from here to there. So, I owned an extened cab S10. My previous car, before the truck, was a 86 Camaro Z28. Are you going to school locally?

It will work. Wiring harness will have to be figured out.
Kurt is waiting for something to happen to my car before he swaps my STi engine to his grocery getter.
I recall guys putting in 2,0L WRX engines in the older GC8 cars...cool setup and you don't get the controversial bug-eye car.

so it would be possible as long as the wiring harness got figured out, hmmmm lol. Would it be an easy swap to do?

I thinks only the newer R32 (or is it R36) comes in AWD. Cool car BTW.
GTi would be a fun car. Check the vw vortex forum for info on that.

The R32's are V6 naturaly aspirated AWD cars. They are also a lil' out of your price range. The GTi's are fairly cool. Rick Thomas runs one at the SWVRSCCA autocrosses and does fairly well.

I needed a good one before I got to bed.
To set the record straight, I do like EVO's, and many other kinds of cars. When it comes to Hondas....heck they make the world's most powerful engines, (19,000rpm F1 engine at 880hp+). I also own an Odessey and find it to be very reliable. (it does good peg leg burnouts too in the rain, muhahaha)
The best part about this site is that its made up of people with all different loyalties to makes of cars and interest. Honestly, I get bored just reading about Sube's on Subaru message boards. I don't mind ppl poking fun...got live some.

I have audio of a guy at an autoX that thought Robbie's car was a Honda. ("yo, only Honda makes EVO's") And he was trying to correct his chick who said that the car on the track was a real EVO.
