In 1991, General Motors (http://www.autoblog.com/make/gm/) decided it wanted to build a truck not for utility but for speed. The GMC Syclone (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/gmc+syclone), with its 4.3-liter turbocharged V6 engine and all-wheel-drive setup, became the fastest truck on the planet and was able to shock many sportscars and exotics of its time. Ferrari (http://www.autoblog.com/make/ferrari/) 348ts? The Syclone was quicker down the quarter-mile dragstrip. Porsche 911 Turbo (http://www.autoblog.com/model/911+turbo)? The GMC bullet train was quicker to 60 miles per hour.

Production of the Syclone lasted one full year and 2,995 examples were produced. Three did come off the line for the 1992 model year, but good luck finding one of those. During its production run, there were two special-edition trucks produced by third parties; an Indy Syclone and the Marlboro Syclone.

Finding an example of either is quite rare, seeing as how just three Indy and 10 Marlboro examples were produced. That doesn't mean you'll never see one, however, as there's a 1991 GMC Marlboro Syclone is sitting on eBay Motors waiting for a new home.

In 1992, Marlboro Racing held a contest and 10 winners were chosen and given the keys to a special-edition Syclone. The trucks were sent to Shinoda Design after getting a haircut from American Sunroof Corporation (the t-top roof panels are removable and easily stored in the bed). The custom wheels were designed by Boyd Coddington. The Hot Lick Red paint was devised by PPG and the side graphics were created by Graphik Concepts. Inside, the Marlboro Syclone features a Simpson five-point harness belt setup draped over Recaro seats, a custom Momo steering wheel and a Sony head unit. This particular Syclone is also chipped, dropped and has a Borla exhaust system. Better yet, it shows just 976 miles on the odometer.

Needless to say, this is a very rare, very fast truck. It currently stands with four bids at $26,300 and an unmet reserve. Head on over to eBay Motors (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/marlboro-syclone-gmc-excellent-condition-900-miles-RARE-/320633215219?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item4aa73a98f3#ht_500wt_1182) and check out this red rocketship.

The Typhoon and Syclone two of my favorites.

When I was working in Kentucky, I would see a black one sitting in a drive way, never moved the whole time I was down there.

If I wasn't afraid of getting shot, I would have stopped and asked about it.

Jay do you remember if the Cameo was based off the Syclone appearance package? Or was it made before or after these?

Cameo came first in 89.
You'll see some that have the bumper, a 4cyl and nothing else. Then some which have just the stickers and a 4.3
In 89 they were just slapping stuff together basically. In 90 they all had the body packages, 4.3 and the nice seat inside.

There's an all orig one out Washington bottom that's been sitting forever.

I'd still like to have a Cyclone.

Oh yeah syclone for sure... Just remember seeing a 4.3 cameo back in the day...had factory like 1 inch lowering kit or something on it...different spindles?

Hmm.. I think the spring rate was dif but not spindle. Not sure its been too long ago. They had "sport" suspension iirc

With the Cyclone being the animal it is, or was, in 91, imagine what it could be now with the parts available.
It had a water/air intercooler. Ditch that for a good fmic. All hard pipes, etc. I'm sure tuning has came leaps ahead of whatever controls it too.

Not to mention the 4.3 is just a v8 minus 2 cyls. Pistons would be cheap and avail in any config, as would rods.

Cam tech has advanced sooo much it isn't funny. For instance in the ford community the "letter cams" are still good, but far outdated by todays standard. You can gain 20HP over the frp cams by using just a new tech one. I'm sure the cyclone is the same way, ESP over stock.

Hmm.. All this talk has me wanting one.

Ok that truck with a built 3.6 like out of a camaro....running a turbo direct injection would be a beast....

Curiously I went shopping for one earlier.. They're either piles of crap or they want way too much for one.

Honestly though, its a damn s10 with a turbo 4.3 and 700r. No matter the problem it has it couldn't be hard or expensive to fix.

There's no way the front end is the same. You ever notice how the 4wds the front tires sick way out?

Prob easier to buy an awd safari and just change the body.
