What
SCCA Solo2 aka AutoX. Imagine a big parking lot made into a race course using cones/pylons. Object is to go thru the course w/o hitting any cones as fast as you can. Sound easy? Give it a shot. Blantant advertising here: See here for some video that I take of the AutoX's: http://www.skuttlemotorsports.com
If you have never seen an AutoX, its alot of fun to watch and even more fun to race in. It doesn't matter what type of car you have. In AutoX, you will learn more about what you and your car can and can't do.... more than any other type of driving excerise or race. There are numerous beginners at every event. Its the safest (but not easiest) type of racing, and helmets are required. You cannot be a good AutoX'er unless you get out there and "just do it".
They have loner helmets at the course in case you need one.
Official results are usually posted the next day or so online: http://www.swvrscca.org/
About 45-80 cars show up everytime.
See here for more official info on Solo2: http://www.scca.org/Solo/Solo.asp?IdS=0 ... 050|010&~= (http://www.scca.org/Solo/Solo.asp?IdS=07DA4F-52BC2E0&x=050|010&~=)
See here for the local (Charleston, WV area) website and forums: http://www.swvrscca.org/ Always check the SWVR site the night before and early morning before the event for cancellations
Cost
It is $22 for non-members and $17 for members for a full day of racing. We usually get 4 timed runs and perhaps some fun runs at the end of the day.
This is by far the most inexpensive form of motor racing. In comparison, a Formula 1 budget is around $300-600million a year, hehe :)
Go here if you want o pre-register for the event. http://www.myautoevents.com to find the event and look for the SWVR region etc.. Register up and input the info. Super easy.
When
2007 Schedule:
coming soon
All events should be at Riverside High School, Belle, WV, however it is subject to change.
Registration ends at 9:00am. You can also pre-register online
Where
Currently we race with the SWVR chapter of the SCCA. Hopefully all the AutoX's will be at Riverside High School located in Belle, WV about 10 miles south of Charleston. However, while this lot has been great for the chapter, it can change. I'll post any news about lot changes.
(Columbus has an active AutoX club with many hot/national ranked drivers.
Directions to current location. Riverside High School, Belle, WV.
Go south on I-77.
Go thru Charleston and stay on I-77.
Exit the "Cheylan" exit about 10 miles south of Charleston
Turn left (East) and go over the large bridge
Make an immediate left (North) off the bridge on Rt.60
At the next traffic light make a left and continue straight into Riverside high School.
Important: Do not speed or drive in any immature manner around this High School/AutoX event or any other AutoX lot. (Use low-revs and high gears) If caught the SWVR SCCA racing chapter will throw you out and it would look negatively on movFast too.
Thanks and I'm looking forward to a fun AutoX season!!!Let's Race!!!
I will try to update this thread with any new news that I can.
Cheers,
