I used the PIAA superwhites or plasma blues when I had my Sube RS. I liked em, shot a good wide beam and was especially handy since I lived in BFE at the time. You probably already know this.....do not touch the bulb with your fingers (or anything else) as you will runin the bulb.

Anymore it seems the majority of the bulbs are the same....
I actually was in Walmart a while back when one of mine burnt out and they had the same type...I was surprised...
The name escapes me @ the minute....anyway...check them out....well known brand...seem to work great.... 8)

I heard silverstars burn out about once a week, don't waste the forty bucks on them! Dish out the extra cash and go with some h.i.d.'s! :D

Gotta agree. Once I got a car with HID's I'll never get another car w/o them. (unless the Lotus Elise doesn't have them)
aftermarket HID are rather spendy thou:(

Well, I'm also going to guess that XenonDepot isn't exactly OEM material either. Their replacement bulbs are like $140 a piece  . April had Silverstar low-beams for about a year and a half, including on the red Alero she had before this one, so They lasted through the car being totalled. They BOTH burnt out at the last autocross, so I think that when we disconnected her amp and sub, the tiny piece of masking tape we had on the ends of the wires wasn't sufficient. She still has Silverstar high-beeams. From inside the car the color of the light is very similar to our friend's Infiniti G35 HID's, though they don't look as cool from the outside  . If you have $400 for HID's and you don't mind wondering how long each of your $140 replacement bulbs will last, go that route, they look better and are somewhat brighter. If, like me, you think that $40 is more than enough to pay for headlights, buy Silverstars. They're close to the color of HID's (not like the BMW purple/blue or anything, though), much better than stock bulbs, easy to find in a local store (they go on sale for "buy one, get the second half-off" pretty often at the parts stores...that makes them $30), they probably make a bulb that will also fit your foglights, they're legal, and they definitely last way more than a week. April's low-beams were on for approximately 1-5 hours every day during that year and a half and her high beams are also her daytime running lamps so they're on all day. My guess would be that if your Silverstars only last a week, you probably touched them. I still recommend them.

I got silverstars in my legend. Of course their no H.I.D.'s, but I got them from Walmart (employe discount ) last summer, and they are yet to fail me. They look a lot better than my stock yellow bulbs, and do light up the road more.

I have had excellant luck with them...
The guy who had my car, had it for a few yrs before I bought it, and had only purchased one set. Then last summer I noticed a headlight was out. I stopped @ Walmart and grabbed another set. Been great since then...and I do alot of driving with my lights on.....

I have silverstars in my car, and I dont think they are worth the money. They are a whiter light but they dont let me see any better. No matter soon enough I am upgrading to european ellipsoids(sp) :D

I think people expect too much from them. They are still the same wattage and everything as your stock bulb, so it's not night and day. The color is much clearer and the light is only slightly brighter than a new standard bulb would be.

Agreed Shorty, if you are looking for better lighting conditions, H.I.D or bust.....

No just that, but even with HID's, there is only so much you can do without blinding those around you. A brighter bulb is only brighter, as it does not effect the aiming of your headlights or the beam it produces. If you wanna see further ahead of you, aim your headlights higher. It may blind people but it would help you see further...

I just simply said that's what I heard. And that's from numerous people. And nope, the bulb was never touched. Xenon Depot is oem material if you get the right application. It's as simple as plugging them into a ballast. Oh, and H.I.D. bulbs are supposed to outlast the life of the car. So that's why they're 140 bucks! They're also Phillips bulbs which are top of the line xenon bulbs. I don't think that's too bad. Silverstars are not even CLOSE to hid's man. Not in color, depending on the intensity of the bulb you get or in output. They are NO brighter than stock bulbs at all. They're just not yellow output.

If those XenonDepot's work out, then I will recommend them. I would just like to know more about the quality and durability of them before I start telling people to dish out that much for brighter headlights. I do know that Silverstars have never let down anyone that I know and that they're much more affordable, definitely legal, and very easy to find, so for now, that's the best thing I can recommend.

As far as legal, most high end cars come equipped with h.i.d.'s. They are not "illegal." Audi's, evo's, bmw's, s2000's. PLENTY more! They WILL work out. I know plenty of people that have had them for quite some time. I'd recommend them to anyone.

And silverstars don't work on a lot of cars' electrical systems. They will pop within a week. Rsx's (That's mostly where I've heard them), tibruons, suburbans, etc.

I put silverstars on my dads blazer and they work great...never had any trouble with them. They are even on alot for the day time running lights and i have yet to have one burn out....(6 months). I am considering puttin them in my stang since the factory ones blow....also try getting a new headlight kit...the fox mustang headlights are terrible about yellowing which will ruin any hopes of seeing the road at night or in the rain. I put a new 6 piece set of OEM lights in my car and it made a world of difference. 100xbrighter.
i dont think silverstars are all that bright.. friend of mine had them in his super-10 an he hated them.

The legality comes into question when they're not made by an OEM manufacturer and they're not equipped form the factory. In the case of XenonDepot, the color may come into question too. The Xtreme kits or whatever they're called may not be legal (though I could be wrong) just because of the intensity of the colors. Most HID's are colored that way because of the natural color at which the gases burn (as I'm sure you know)...that's why they get away with the blues and purples. I'm not cracking on your HID's at all...if I could afford HID's I'd probably have them, too.

You are right about the xtreme kits. The more intense the color, the less light output, so why you would even want to worry more about color is beyond me. But those people DO deserved to get a ticket it they have those. They're basically Police light blue or purple.

I think the whole thing bout headlight colors bein illegal is as dumb as underbody kits bein illegal.. if yuo cant tell the difference between a cars headlights bein purple, licenseplate frame bein green, or a blue glow comin from under a car - from flashing red/blue lights from a policecar/ambulance then you dont need to be on the road to begin with.

Well said both of you. The point of the color is to be closer to daylight in light output, not to "pimp your ride" lol.

One thing I was thinking about for my car and maybe someone else may too, Stepping up to a larger wattage bulb. The higher the wattage, (Most of the time) the more light. The problem with that however is the factory wiring usually does not support the higher current and can cause problems. But that is easy to get around by using new wiring of a larger guage and simply using the factory wiring to trigger a relay that can handle the current. You can by the wire and the relay at your local RadioShack. The other problem is though and most people forget about this, is that the higher wattage bulbs also produce more heat and I have seen several sets of headlight assemblies melt down under the new found heat. Aftermarket assemblies rated for higher wattage bulbs fix that problem and this is still far cheaper than going HID. Now don't get me wrong I, love the HID light, and I would love to have them, but I am sure I am not the only one that has had a bad experiance with a deer in southeastern Ohio. The housing, wiring, and relay is still far cheaper to replace than one HID setup.
It is just one other way to get it done and get more usuable light. The bulbs I was planning on using are 60/100's. It is kinda nice you get someone that pisses you off get behind'em and show them what 100watts of daylight look light. Brings a smile out everytime.

When part of the instructions state "Fire Extinguisher May Be Required" You know there is a problem.
