10%? lets see tube frame, carbon fiber body, lexan windows, roll cage, fully preped turbo charged motor, and big honking parachute. How about 1% for the body shape minicking the original from the firewall back. Well that and it is still fwd.

That may be one of the turbo Ecotec drag cars. I'm not a cavi fan, but noone here can really say much about them. There are a few teams that are driving with a regular Ecotec block (I think) and a single turbo and producing well over 1000 horsepower. Cavi's are made cheap and slow, but so are regular Lancers, Imprezas, Civics, and Neons. Just because Mitsu and Suby can slap a turbo on and con you into paying $16,000 more for it, doesn't mean they're better. Sure there are other mods, too, like suspension, wheels, and seats, but still. Ok, and AWD is nice, too. But still, a Cavalier can be fast. We ran into a stcok Z24 on a country road one night in a turbo Eclipse and he ran us as hard as only a few have been able to. This wasn't a drag race, but more like a Tougue Showdown from Best Motoring lol. I know that's an embarrassing statement, but my job is to offer as unbiased an opinion as I can. Also, I just have to say this, but I drove a 2005 Focus ST (no, not an SVT) yesterday, and it was a better experience than any of the Cobras, Mustang GT's, or Mach 1's we have on the lot. That was a very fun car to toss around and it had one of the easiest gearbox/clutch setups I have driven. But, as with a Cavi, Lancer, Neon, Impreza, or Civic, it's still a Focus. Keep in mind that I drive a 1993 Grand Am GT, so I am not talking down about these cars, but just stating an unbiased opinion.

It might have started its life as a "regular" block but the thing has been sleeved, cooling passages have been filled on and on and on...its about as '"regular" as the SB chevy motors are in Nascar or the C5R. Based yes its definately based on a standard block. think of it like a Dart block.

This is the understatment of the year did you forget the totally different motors? Not to mention the rest of the powertrain plus everything you listed.
Also, I just have to say this, but I drove a 2005 Focus ST (no, not an SVT) yesterday, and it was a better experience than any of the Cobras, Mustang GT's, or Mach 1's we have on the lot. I have driven one also not a 05 but a 04 or 03 and I am dissapointed with it myself. But I am disappointed with most new cars they all have this large headroom look to them which is fine but it also makes them top heavy. And ford has screwed up again not only do we not get the RS focus but the SVT and its Zetec motor are history.

That was interesting.
Anything can be fast if u throw a ton of money at it.
Cavalier...MSRP$15k? Throw another $15K's and you'll have a fast straight-liner. (not to mention all the headaches with those mods and reliability)
I'd rather start with my "con' d" bought Subaru and have a daily driver thats pretty fast, reliable and all-weather capable.
Drive a base line Impreza. Then go drive a STi. There's a few changes...
Reminds me when I drove a FIAT in Europe. (sarcasm on) I couldn't help to think that it felt like a watered down Ferrari F355 that I drove later on a racetrack.

Would be fun to do that. Ghetto rig the Sti with lights. Then infiltrate into the Cavlier crowd. Of course, have the bullet cam in stealth mode and catch the expressions on theri faces, or open arms to "their" community. Then I'll probably have to do AWD burnouts and stuff.

REAL Christmas lights look dumb on any car, not just J-bodys. My wife used to own a Cavalier. That 5-speed car prompted me to trade my Extended-cab S10 in for a 3G Eclipse. The S10 had a pretty neat sound system in it... 2 12" JLs, 2 Precision Power amps, an active crossover, Alpine head unit, Alpine 6 disc changer, custom install(by yours truly).
Hey... at least you don't drive a Beretta... he he he
you can't talk down on cavalier's because with the exception of the old 2.2 in the 95-02 cavalier's they are not too bad for stock and cheap cars, the new ecotec and the z24 with the 2.4 twin cam in them push out more then civic's do
the only reason that civic's and eclipse's get all the fame and respect is b/c up until now not too many performance parts were made for the cavalier's, with the inception of the ecotec they have broadened there horizons a little and now there is more to buy than just accessories

Not to make an issue of it, but, many older cavaliers had a decent aftermarket prescence, then there's the fact that the rs came with a 3.1 v6 that killed many 4's in other cars. Major problem with caviliers, A: dependability, B: Minor changes between the same model, same year, I've seen so many stock parts not bolt up right on two cavaliers from the same year, yes, this has been cured, but, it used to be a problem

I think its great to see domestics make a stand in the growing sport compact car market.
However I think that the teasing that local Cavalier's are receiving is beacuse a bunch of them look like moving x-mas trees or wild spacecrafts. Its the all show and no go thing. I haven't see ANY around here that have true performance parts on it. Just an observation...

I realize that the cobolt is the replacement for cavaliers, but, it is not a cavalier, so we aren't cutting on a car that isn't even out yet, yes cavaliers can be fast, with an ecotec, sadly, most of the ones around here are stock, I'm not a huge fan of what they do, but, hey, maybe they are smart enough to realize that they can't handle higher power cars, something a lot of people don't think about, yeah, it seems silly to everyone who is total power nuts, but, would anyone here trade thier car for a turbo metro? sure it's more powerful, but I haven't seen too many people here driving rusty boxes that have more power than the republic of china. Anyways, rants done, go back to the arguing

So, just because some young punks hang out and do stupid stuff in the lots, everyone owning a Cav is judged the same way?
I'm a 25 yr old student that is married with a kid, and I don't hang out at K-mart. However, parts of my car are in primer (partially due to an accident), and the reason is that I have other priorities for my money than paint and engine upgrades. When the time comes, I'll take care of stuff like that, but right now, I can't afford to do it.
So, does that make me part of "team Cavy"?
Let me make it known that there are just as many of these kids all over the MOV driving the same types of cars that you all own.
Don't make judgements on everyone because of a few fools.
And yes, I have a Cavalier.

I'd say a bunch of people on here have Cavaliers, or at least something similar or worse. I drive an old Grand Am. I don't think that this thread was aimed at Cavalier owners, just what I assume is a real "car club" in their area. If it's aimed solely at Cavalier owners, then it's retarded, but I think that most of us here are above that kind of stuff. If you have Christmas lights or 7 different spoliers on your car, it likely applies to you, and your primer is the least of our worries. Otherwise, don't take it to heart.

I'm not trying to come off as a bad guy, especially on my first post, but it gets old hearing the same old thing about the car I chose to buy. No, a Cavalier is not a powerhouse, but that's not why I bought it. I bought it because it looks pretty good, it's reliable, cheap on parts, and easy on gas. The aftermarket scene has nothing to do with why I own my car.
Yeah, I've seen lots of cars that are a "joke", but they weren't limited to any certain make/model. That's all I'm saying. Thanks for listening to my rant.

Actually, I don't blame ya for being a little bit mad, you should.
movFast.com (as you will notice) is made up of ppl with all types of loyalty to certain cars, usually our own..I'm know I'm guilty. BUT we show respect to nearly all makes of import and domestic cars. Colors, monetary value, make and model of car doesn't have any higher status than the other. (however cars that have multilayered wings, christmas tree lights and massive bodykits are a hard sell here)

The water pump went out on I79, so I lost my serpentine too. I just replaced the belt and pump.

I could of sworn, the water pump was driven by the timing belt, which also ran your oil pump.
I think you may have something confused...
Serpentine belts run your accessories....such as P/s, Alt, etc...
Maybe someone can clarify this for me...since I'm not a Cavy guy.... 8)

Mine is only the 2.2 though. My pump is ran by the serpentine, that's why I lost the belt. When the pump went out, the bearing shot off the shaft of the pump, and just killed it.
I believe the 2.4 is different.
