ITS ALIVE!!!

today i resurrected the talon from its long sleep....my idle surge mysteriously vanished and everything appears to be in good working order..gettign ready to button the front back up with the clip and get her ready for the street.

shes a brutal lover though..she is probably luring me into a false sense of security so she can leave me stranded 25 miles from the house.

took it around the block..and the damn thing ate its alternator belt again WTF!!!!!!!

at least the yellowtop had enough juice to get me back to the house..

anyone have any idea why this thing would be eating its alt belt so fast??
this new one lasted apx 5 miles!!!

Its off alignment from the pulleys. Or the pulley has a chip in it.... 8)

been running goodyear gatorbacks..dont have any problem with gatorbacks on the main belt system...just the alternator/powersteering side...im thinkign it might have somehting to do with the exhaust manifold ( assranger i bought the car off of in his infinite wisdom removed all the heat shrouding) first belt looked liek it was hit with a blow torch...this second belt just got shredded..i will try running a stock belt just to see what happens..but im going to try to get some header wrap or some type of shield designed for that area before i drive it again

I have run with no heat sheild since the day I took the car home. Shouldn't matter. What does matter though there is a bracket that holds goes on for the power steering I had to "readjust" a little. My belts had actually been rubbing together. Loads of fun. But I had some dirt or something in behind that bracket and it threw the rest off alignment.

I doubt the heat shield though. Don't you think it is fun to run the car really hard and stop to cook marshmallows off the manifold? I thought everyone did that!

Check your crank pulley/balancer. When they start to fail and come apart from rubber center they will make belts jump and eat them up.

was it tight enough and did the belts squeel before it snapped.

you got that right bud...when i picked my car up and drove the first 100 miles and popped the hood to check the oil the freakin heat wave off of that manifold literally singed my eyebrows at a good 4 feet away..unfreakinreal

i will check the balancer and stuff and see what gives...something is def not right

The crank pulley was mentioned before, that is a good place to check. Right on there. One of the motors in my car had a huge chunk missing out of it. You can get a really good balanced underdrive pulley from Buschur for a pretty good price. If they cost too much for you, I may have a good stock one laying around the garage.
