are vtec engines all they are cracked up to be? the ultimate Engine. I heard that A non-vtec engine can do just as much and maybe more. non-vtecs have more torqe and more low end.. but thats just what i heard..

race engine? nonvtec is the way to go. daily driver with mods vtec. If you go with aftermarket cams the vtec is friendlier on idle as they hardly ever touch the low lobes and the more change is on the switch over lobes. But if you have nonvtec like me there are still tons of mods out there for it. Also a b18a and a vtec head even though Ive heard reliability issues makes a damn good hybrid motor. Look for the other thread on this.

Work with what you have. You will need to do alot of research before you start dumping money and time into your car. There are several different Honda/Acura forums out there.
Several listed here ---->http://www.movfast.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=76
Check them out and you will be surprised how quickly you will learn what not to do....and of course we are always here to guide you along as needed... 8)

you have the perfect engine to boost and that would be great but the sound of v-tec is so damn great. I guess it just comes down to personal taste and what kind of car you want to build

I have never ridden in an Ls Vtec.....I have driven a Gsr, Ex and Si. The Gsr and Si had simiar feelings when vtec engaged, but I believe the Gsr had a bit more torque steer than my Si does. You could feel the ex kick in but more subtle..... 8)

gsr has a bit more grunt i think the si is 116ft lbs and the gsr is 126 ft lbs

if you have a jdm gsr motor your compression ratio is 10.6 instead of 10.1 also. not sure about the b16's

have you gteched your si lately? i know you will be in the 13's cause i watched a guy with a otherwise stock motor and a greddy turbo kit run a 13.6. that thing was sweet. but he sold his kit to buy a house and put a gsr block with si head itr trans and i don't know if he has his skunk 2 stage 2 cams in yet but he is running about a 14.4 all motor know. i also saw a guy with a single cam junk yard turbo run a 14.4 and the guy that swapped my motor in had a junkyard kit on a automatic 95 ex and ran a 14.0

Thats good to know. I really hope I can squeeze it into the 13's. I just put some motor mount inserts on tonight. My drivers side torque mount was torn all to heck...basically wheel hop owned me. So I hope this helps me get off the line quicker. I plan on trying to make it to the 1/8th mile in Kanawha next Thursday. Only thing left is to get my d/p connected up and I will be on the road.
I will have some time slips to post up for sure. 8)

which is better.... True Vtec Or a hybrid? Because the LS/Vtec seems like a popular swap. :?

I am not 100% sure on the B18 hybrids but the hybrid has a stronger bottom end an different compression ratio that makes it perform slightly better.

the ls vtec has a little more torque than a orginal b18c. i have heard there where reliability issues but i'm not sure.

Well sorta. Not as much peak Hp, but more low end torque. Also alot of people tubo an ls vtec, b/c it has longer gearing for boost.... 8)

they use a ls transmision because it has wider gears than si or gsr
