I'm far from an expert on this one but....
Ricer= will make their car "special" in as many decals, vinyls, bodykits, neons, colored calipers, more stickers, crazy colored tinted windows on their car as is possible. (that make sense? ) I do not think it really matters anymore if the car is a legally "imported" car or not. (Domestic guys, please correct me if I'm wrong:))

There used (may still be around, was called Junkerz.com, or something) to be a great website out there that displayed images of what I would define "ricer".
To me, a "ricer" isn't necessarilly an import, but a style. This would include, as Davis noted, heavy decals, modifications, etc, but taken too far. Excessive. Especially if said "rice-boi" hasn't taken the time to equally apply efforts towards the mechanics.
If you're running a stock engine but have a whiney exhaust (or even worse, just a large exhaust tip), and/or decals from commercial productions when you haven't equipped a single piece of their inventory.
But that's just me, I guess. I'm... "conservative". I like the clean, sleek look.

In my mind a ricAr is someone who values looks over perfomance. They are annoying and mostly ignorant.
For example: christmas lights on your car? need I saw more. Huge double decker wings. 6" exhuast tips on your mufflers to see who can be the loudest. Cutting your springs, instead of buying a nice set to drop your car. Crazy bodykits, and then driving around for 4 months without having it painted, so everyone knows you put a kit on your car.
Just b/c you are driving an import does not make you a ricAr. Mustangs with altezzas. Big no no. There are all sorts of rice.
In conclusion, being a ricAr means no taste. Take a look @ these examples and you will understand real quick what it means... several of them are domestics, just goes to show that it attackes all cars...8)

I disagree. Most of us think the things ricers do to their cars are hidious! Its the fact that they make them "look" fast without being fast; putting on every aftermarket body effect you can find. I think the term originated/came-to-be because ricers tended to "rice out" imports. Spured from the term "Rice burner."

Nice pics Adam....
Were those from your personal picture collection? Part of a shrine you have at home? heheheh, just joking.
Damn, those were hideous pics.

I would have to disagree Robbie. Ignorance breeds ignorance. Have you noticed that most "ricArs" group together...b/c in there group they are cool and they don't know any better. Its one thing to make a show winning car, but another to just throw junk on it without any since of style...you might as well be wearing red shorts with a pink shirt....catch my drift amigo... 8)

I agree with Robbie on this one, But i do see why it is an insult to be called a ricer. I for one thought in a way ricer=racer, not ricer=cheep ugly car:? . Learn something new everyday :D

Joe: those cars aren't bad...I don't think I would do the body kit on the Si but oh well, can't have everything. The S2000 looks good though... 8)

At one time, I actually thought of putting one of those stupid aluminum wings on the volare. It would actually do it some good of putting some drag on the rear tires. Oh well, Ill just put on a factory spolier from a super coupe or duster or roadrunner.

I'd say ricers just give off a vibe. Like they just don't feel like they should be driving a sweet car, or they seem to be trying too hard. It's sad that some people are called ricers when they don't really deserve it. I saw a vid of like a cavalier racing a civic hatchback with an aluminum wing on it. Because the civic had a wing, the cavalier driver was called a ricer...? I'd say that there is no way to define a ricer, you just kinda know when you see one. It has nothing to do with the bodykit you have or whatever, unless it's hideous. Some ricers' cars look just like a race car out of the JGTC or WRC, but have stock engines with APC mufflers. Next, cheap parts don't make youa ricer, they make you cheap. Some people will want another 1 or 2 MPG but could give 2 shits about impressing someone, so they buy the cheap stuff and get on their way. However, if they use the money they saved for some neon green caliper paint and 2,635 feet of stick on chrome trim, they might be a ricer. We should start a Jeff Foxworthy-ish "you might be a ricer" thread. Now, if you see some guy in a Geo Metro with a forward facing coffee can in his front grill with an air filter in it, he might not be a ricer. I am all for using whatever you have to use to squeeze every last horsepower out of your eninge, and if they guy had to do it because he couldn't afford to have AEM fabricate him one, that's fine with me. I say do as you wish, it's your car and you need it to please you, not everyone else. I feel like a badass driving my 1993 Grand Am GT down the road, but I know it's a turd. However, what I have done to it was all up to me and I have had so much fun doing it, I wouldn't trade it for the world. A couple months ago, I had the opportunity to replace it with a 2000 Impreza 2.5 RS, a car that I would love to toy around with (Suby's sound awesome). My mother said that in order to get the Suby, I had to sell my car since we have too many cars as is and we can't insure any more. Needless to say, I'm still driving around in my old Grand Am. I'm sure that some people call me a ricer, but it's what I can afford and I would gladly put my car against their's, no matter what it is. And for the record, I drove around with GT-R emblems for like 6 months lol.

yeah, same around here...I'd say that some of them are just works in progress. Like changing from the aluminum to something else, but leaving the brackets so your trunk doesn't leak in the meantime.
