Anyone have any info on this procedure?
its equipped with infinity sound system, under seat amplifier.
i hear just swappin the headunit will not work, because the amp powers all speakers and they wont work without the stock headunit.
ive read where you can tap into wires at the amp, and do it like that. or if the head unit has enough power, rms, just bypass it completley.
and add a set of 12's

well, i got it figured out.
the cable delivering signal too the amp has the wires necessary and i can just cut the wire and splice. so the stock amp still powers the ambient speakers, and ill just run rca for my amp.

you need to check the rms going to the amp, if you just found the wires and didn't read a writ=up or anything.
the power is so low going to the amp that if you use your speakers it will melt down the amp.
are you splicing your rca wires in it or just using speaker output wires?
i agree, the wattage coming from your factory head unit to the amp is more than likely ALOT lower than that of an aftermarket unit. you will know instantly tho once you hook it up.. if your head unit volume is on like 3, an it sounds like its on about 50, then yea.. youre runnin too much power to the amp and it surely will fry.

the stock amp delivers 27 watts RMS to the speakers.
even though most aftermarket headunits boast 50 watts, or whatever, they have a LOW rms, am i correct? like 10 - 13
If i can get a head unit with enough ass i would just cut the AMP out wires to teh speakers, and patch in from the headunit there.
the car has a complete Infinity sound system. the speakers are decent quality.

if they say 50 its a good guess its more like 20-25 but that factory amp is still probably less distorted than a head unit built in amp.

most factory amped speakers run on a low ohm setup also, so that will blow them as well, it's not always about th wattage, but the ohms to it as well..
i know on the z's with the boss setup, it's like a half ohm speakers, and a stock will blow wm becasue of the wrong ohms goign ot them...
i'm not sure, you jhsut have to read up on it, jsut hate to see you blow up the speakers in a perfectly good car,

Not to mention they mean 50 watts total, not per channel, thus you end up with about 12.5 watts per channel, so it's usually real weak.

I had an amplifier like that in my eclipse. It had the infinity sound system and the amp under the passanger seat. It was a bear. I took it to CC thinking they knew what they were doing.... yea.. dont do that. They sold me and adapter, and a $75 charge for bypassing it, but they didnt. The speakers were sideways and bassackward. I had to then remove the amplifier, and run wires all the way under the seat and get a manual to see what wires were what. It's a tough situation. There are a few forums online too somewhere that have the wire diagram. I did mine a yr or more ago so I dont quite remember exactly. But, G-luck.

I eliminated the stock amp.
took out the passenger seat and jumped the headunit channels to the speaker wires there.
every speaker peforms perfect.
the speakers so have a LOW tolerance now, before with the stock amp there was lots of bass, but not the stock speakers just tremble at the sight of bass.
front tweets are 8ohm
rest of the speaks are 4 ohm.
im guessing that the stock amp sliced the power and put lesser power and bass to certain speakers,.
and now they are all getting full power. and just cant handle it.
I am going to replace the speakers soon.
I was told the stock speakers will fry my headunit? sounds like BS. i called audio crafters in pburg and they said im good.
question, where did my thundering bass go? where did it come from? lol.

it's just the ohms, will blow speaks soon.
just buy some speaks with that comp store money.
odds are the stock amp had some sort of built in crossover to keep certain frequencies from goin to certain speakers. obviouslty you cant put bass to tweets w/out frying them. they may have some sort of cap on them but who knows..
the bass was more than likely coming from the rear speakers, and alltho the amp is stock it ws prob putting out more power than what your head unit will. your best bet would be to buy an amp, doesnt have to be anything huge.. but anything would sound better than runnin it off of your head unit
