Greddy vs. Borla vs. Magnaflow?

anyone able to base an opinion on any of the above?

what I'm looking for is peformance with a nice deep throaty sound..
I want to stay away from the bumble bee in a beer can sound..

Magnaflow?

I have one of these on my car if you wanna hear it. It's in cat-back form right now. I plan to go with a full turbo back within the next year. All I have to do is add a downpipe and testpipe or high-flow cat.

Living where we do you also have to look at the material. I have a Borla stainless steel on the Honda and it still looks good 6 years later.

I can say that the greddy on a Civic produces a deep mellow tone and isn't bad sounding @ higher Rpm's. 8)

I see your name says clipse...we just installed an Apex Integration N-1 Series downpipe and cat-back (if there was a cat to go back from that is  ) on a 1997 Eclipse GS-T and it's pretty nice. The fit was amazing. It is aluminized and coated, but if you want stainless, you would have to go with the GT series, which is kinda pricey. Magnaflow sounds good, as I would imagine Greddy would, too. Borla makes exhaust for mostly stock vehicles and they are not very loud from what I have seen/heard. Hope that helped a little :D .

well, exhaust is up to you too, then. I dunno much about the 3rd gen's except that there are quite a few parts available for you. I have seen a video of a guy in an Evo versus a turbo'd 3rd gen 4cyl. and it was neck and neck. It was from a rolling start, of course. Turbocharge it. Who needs reliability?

:?: what is better having a cat back exhaust or and full 2.5 pipe with a high flo cat. i would think with the high flo setup would be best but alot of people say their getting cat back because its better more flo?? :?

This is true. I would just be weary gutting a cut or going with a testpipe on a 4cylinder N/a car. I have heard of several experiences were it produces a loud obnoxious sound with alot of cracking and popping. The Hp gains are minimal to none. If it is a bigger output engine or a turbo vehicle. A test pipe can give you big gains.

Just try it @ your own risk..... 8)

My two favorite exhausts (which I have heard on several vehicles) is the Thermal R&D Stealth catback system, and I also really like the Apex'I World Sport. Good stuff....

Yep.. I'm just one of the MANY 3g owners.. I drove to the inlaws in richmond kentucky over the weekend.. I swear I saw 50 2000+ eclipses over the weekend.. only one had any visual mods, drop springs, 19s, decent rubber, CF hood.. it was in richmond.. the rest were bone stock appearing.

I'm leaning pretty heavily towards the greddy evo II cat back.. all I'm reading about it is good stuff.

Thanks for the input guys..

say, ShortysTRM, you guys got a chassis dyno hid down there somewhere?

turbo was mentioned for the eclipse.. they've not perfected the turbos for the 3g yet.. closest thing to a 'fully' functional forced induction is a supercharger built by Ripp Mods.. after the car is paid off, I'll be looking into some sort of forced induction. til that day.. I'll just drool over the intercoolers you guys have.. :P

You are gonna pay good money for both of those setups....but prolly the best on the market right now. You might be able to save some $$ by having someone make you a catback setup and then just buying the muffler....crunch some #'s and see...Good luck.... 8)

I'm not exactly sure why you asked me about the chassis dyno, but if you mean is there one near my house, then yes, at http://www.carlgrovermotorsports.com. As for the mysterious turbocharged 3G Eclipse, http://www.alantripp.com/EclipsevsSRT4A.wmv right click and save as. He says it's Turbonetics. Amazing race. It's an SRT-4, not an EVO as I had stated earlier. Anyways, you're welcome and enjoy! :D

oh, and you can buy that kit and check out a dyno graph of that same car at http://acceleratedautosports.com.

I was under the impression that the nearest chassis dyno was probably around columbus.. grant it, I didnt do any amazing footwork on that, It was mostly just asking around. :P

I checked out that kit you mentioned, It looks good, but it looks like its for the rs/gs..
I got a pretty good chuckle out of their sales pitch though..
our new bolt-on turbo kit complete with everything you will need to humiliate the competition :D

I've got alittle while before I need to worry about FI, so say'eth the Bank.

understandable...I think that company only makes that one kit lol. Does that qualify you as a company? Cool vid though, but crappy audio.

Not a bad vid...one of the closest race vids I have ever seen. The eclipse needs to get tuned, do some weight redux and learn to drive, b/c his shifting was subpar to say the least and he would pull that srt-4. Although the same goes for the srt-4 also. 8)

from what I understand about the 3g eclipses and their brains..
they wont hold a tune.. supposidly 3 key starts or approx 9 miles of driving it reverts to factory settings..
thats pretty much why theres no DIY turbo set ups out there that run 100% right..
and on the other side of the coin, the SC setup that rippmodds has produced comes with a blackbox that tricks the computer into keeping the tuned settings..
theres a big write up on SC vs. TC in the eclipse forums that I read.. maybe alittle biased in parts.. but a good read none the less.
if anybody wants to check it out.. give me a holler.. I'll post the link.

kinda funny how this started out as a catback discussion

I have heard the same thing about ObdII Honda's. The ecu will revert back to the factory settings unless you piggyback or replace the stock ecu. Its actually smart enought that when you change your timing, unless you put a jumper on the ecu when you are adjusting the timing or it will adjust it back...... 8)

Disconnect the rear drive shaft or is the evo the car that can simply disable the rear by pulling a fuse :) ? Probably not but there is a car that is like that

Neither, it has a viscous coupling in the center differential.
