Ended up getting him down to 900. He wouldn't go lower than that, because he said he could part it out for 2k. Just tried cleaning it up, but both the interior and paint are pretty much shot. The interior cleaned up some, but the carpet is pretty stained up, and the dash just chewed my cleaning wipes up (the vinyl is real rough from sun damage). I washed the car, didn't make any difference. Tried some rubbing compound, and the remaining paint just sucked that crap up. I had to scrub to get it off, and you couldn't even tell. So... not wasting any more time with that.

I noticed a few more little dents and dings while I was washing it, but overall I'm pretty happy with the purchase. No rust and the engine/tranny feels solid. The rest is just $$$ and time. I figure I'll set aside $350/mo like I would a car payment, and use that for my repairs & upgrades. I think I can have the whole car redone in 2 years.

That, I don't know. This is my first experience ever with turbos, so I'll have to spend a fair amount of time researching and reading. I saw some guys at the thunderbird & cougar club with slips reading 12's & 13's, but I don't know if theirs are still street legal, or not. But I did see some guys with street legal tbirds on cardomain talking about 12's & 13's, but didn't see any slips. But I figure I should be able to shave 3-4 seconds and still keep it moderately economical.

And I have aptly (for now) named it, Thunderturd

Easiest way into 12's take the motor out of the turbo chicken and install in a 4 cyl Mustang.

i just liike to think of the "chicken car" as a more luxurious mustang. they are built off the same platform i believe, and the same engines. If i dont find a s/c or a turbo one for a decent price, I might just build up mine, or if i do find one, use parts off the one I have now. They are actually really good cars, good gas mileage, ok power, and the ride is good, but yours is probably really good with that adjustable suspension. I mean, so what if it doesnt look that good, you could do your own body work, and just enamel it, depending on what you want out of it that is. That how I always thought about doing my cars, like buying something with a little bit of problems, and fixing it up till where im happy with it, no matter what anyone says, and have fun doing it. Its going to make a good car though 8)

you could always take out the rear end and sell it to a mustnag fanatic if it breaks down, those are disc break limited slip rear ends i'm thinking 373's too.

nice find though, my budy jsut got a supercoupe the other day.

I get around 20 city, and about crap on the highway since i dont have overdrive. but its been tuned up lately with platnum plugs or whatever, but oh well. I havent seen alot of thunderbirds get above 100K without any serious problems. Like mine, the transmission is pooping itself, but it could be a relay for all i know. I just dont worry about it. The rest of the gears shift perfectly.

Yeah, I'm Ceezer there, along with turbobird.com and turboford.org. TCCoA seems to be full of nice people, though, where the others seem to be more lurkers who may or may not take the time to help you.
