well i have been thinking i should get a Shift lite so i could pay more attention to the road instead of the RPM's..And since i already have a Tach i just need a light. I have found to that would be nice but i don't know what to get.. There is an Autometer Already set light...which i would prolly get the 6k to 6,8k light up and it is for $25.... And the other Is a Proform which is an ajustable rpm light.. where you can set it where you will need it.. And it runs for $50....
What should i get do you think?

I THINK you need to get the car running first.

It sounds pointless, to me. By now, you should have an idea of the pitch the engine/exhaust makes when you reach the point/revolutions at which you want to make the transition from one gear to the next. I've always shifted by ear, after getting a feel for it first.
In fact, I had a Subaru turbo something-or-other (can't remember what model it was, now) back in the early-mid 90's. It had a shift light, and I found it to be quite distracting. It was also very inconsistant when making the suggestion to shift, and was most often below the point I wanted to, so I never paid any attention.
Just my $.02

I've never been a big fan of shift lights. BUT, my STi has a small yet very effective built in shift light/buzzer that is RPM adjustable.
At first I didn't think I'd ever use it. However it has been a nice feature to have. Sometimes when I'm blasting thru my favorite mountain road I don''t really have time to glance at my tach. Hearing the little buzzer and small red light come on in the RPM dash is really helpful and keeps me from banging the rev-limiter, especially fast launches in 1,2 gears.
The shift light is espeically useful when I do track lapping at Mid-Ohio. That's a time where you rarely look at your display and when you do its mostly a quick glance at the RPM, engine temp, fuel (1/2 tank in 20 mins) and sometimes speedo. I do not want to concentrate on how close I get to redline when I'm doing 130 mph on the back straight..once again, hearing the buzzer and seeing the light in my perpherial vision is helpful...makes passing M3's alot easier
Joe- A friend had a large "drag" tach on his Mustang. That thing was so large, bright, and loud that it was really annoying, especially for the driver. I think those things are more bling than anything else. You may want to find a small tach that will do the above things without being intrusive. Just my .02

On a side note, Davis, you're the first person I've seen use/spell ciao correctly in quite some time.

Thats just the reason i wanted to get it so i wouldn't have to pay attention and it just go off when i need to shift. I don't want one of the Huge tach's that sit on my dash those are just to show off i think, But i was just wanting a little Shift light that i could mount somewhere on my dash. But it was only a thought.. Because why would i need a shift light if im not even able to drive my car.
Kurt also had a talk with me last night about this subject and he just said it was an useless Upgrade.. and i just need to get to know my car more...
but the main reason i wanted one was because my car redlines at 6.5k and my rev. limiter is at 8k and that kinda worrys me... I Dunno :?

I found the shift light/beeper in Davis' car to be quite cool. If you're doing competitive driving in a fast reving car it can be a help. Check out this little gadget: http://www.rev-lite.com/rev.html

I would concentrate on this. If your valvetrain isn't upgraded to take the strain of higher revs you can do some serious damage. Also, if the cam doesn't support the higher limit, you won't be making any power anyway...
Loose the chip and revert back to Oem or upgrade the cams/valves. 8)

The car is still at your house right?
Go out with a 10mm socket and wrench and dig the ECU out from under the PS footwell carpet.
Look at the numbers on the side. If it says PR4 then open the case and look in the bottom right side where you can see the chips. If there is a chip in that corner that fits into a socket, then the ECU has been chipped. If not, then its not modified.
If it says something other PR4, let us know.
