dont have too much experience with turbos, i have the turbo off the 88 conquest, it is a 12a im pretty sure, i knew that it didnt spool, when i took it off i found that the shaft is broken on the exhaust side, i thought maybe some of the dsm people in here had ran in to this before, i am just wondering if typically they are rebuilable, i know that i would have to take apart to see what the housing looks like, but with the shaft broken that means that it has had a lot of friction at some point. does this normally do bad damage where the bearing rides in the housing. i understand that you can get oversize bearings with a rebuild kit. well now im just rambling, has anybody rebuilt one? i guess i just need to get it apart. i took some pics, you cant really see where its broken in the pics though

I'm not expert, but those intake fans look a little messed up too. Id say if you have the funds go for the upgrade lol.

I'm not expert, but those intake fans look a little messed up too. I think someone told me once that I could have a 14b rebuilt by taking it to some place in marietta for about 150 or more, doesnt sound to bad to me lol. Id say if you have the funds go for the upgrade lol.

Are you kidding me, I rebuilt my own 14b......lol...

Found the parts online for around $80 bucks...

Josh, if the shaft is toast, you might as well find another turbo.

If the bearings and or seals are gone, easy fix...

No special tools needed, only thing I didn't have was a set of Circlip pliers I found @ sears...

Yeah I'd find a different turbo, you might be able to find a rebuild kit for it, but after you buy that, and the shaft, you are looking at the price of a new turbo most likely.

thanks, that is what i figured, the intake fans are a little chewed, i read that the shaft is pretty expensive, im sure there is a lot of wear inside as well, i think i'll just make a lamp out of it! lol

i am parting the car out. i thought i would rebuild and sell it. mainly cause i just wanted to do a turbo rebuild. oh well no big deal, i have already made good money on the car, i sold an injector, the left front fender, and the intercooler for what i had in the car. lol
