All happy to finally get my 30GB ipod video and bought a hardwire kit for my car stereo.
After the frustration on tearing out my stereo late last night (numerous Swedish curse words were used), I get to the back of my Pioneer stereo deck and look for the necessary AUX thing. Not there?!
See pics for the RCA outputs on the back of my stereo (taken with camera/phone, so quality sucks but you get the idea)
Anyways, I figured that since my deck (2.5yrs. old) was "XM ready" (see pic) that it probably had the necessary input/output AUX for using my ipod female audio jack. (see pic)
Questions: (I'm a total stereo newb...I know comptuers but don't mess with stereo stuff)
1. Is there any way to get my ipod to hardwire to my current stereo deck?(works fine and don't feel like getting a new deck, but might have to if necessary)
2. Is there an adapter that I can get to make this work and how?
3. Any other options with going hard wired? (I don't want to get the FM transmitter)
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Are those RCAs just outputs? You said in the post inputs are you sure cant see in the pic. And is the white cable the ipod interface cable? Looks like you need a headphone type plug to RCA adapter from what I can see from the pics. Could be wrong though its just an answer based on the pics.

Yea, those are RCA outputs.
The white cable (alone in pic) is the interface cable that goes to a firewire-ipod to charge and send audio data. I didn't put the whole ipod cable adapter in the pic as I didn't think it was necessary..just put the one that should go to the stereo. Am I screwed?

What are they outputs for? Front, Rear, Left and Right?

I guess. I really don't know. I was hoping for 1 male audio aux cord back there to plug the ipod adpater to.
I suppose that I can find a red/white audio RCA cord that will plug into the ipod female end. However, I don't know if that will send the signal correctly to the stereo deck.
Is the red/white audio RCA ports aux. ports? I really don't dunno. I'm jsut confusing myself I'm afraid.

What does the connector for the ipod look like?
What is it using.
Maybe they have an adapter to connect that to rca inputs..
Justin would be best to ask, he knows that stuff inside and out...

Post the model # of the deck. That way we can find out what the RCA jacks are for on the back of the deck.

Well, I went ahead and bought an adpter for the adpater. RCA red/white audio into a single 3.5 audio male. I'll try to see if it works tonight.
The model stereo I have is: Pioneer DEH-P5500MP its XM-able.
Kinda cool as it plays MP3's and Wma's too.

Ok I am confused now you first said the RCAs were inputs then I asked you if they were outputs and you said yes they are outputs now you dont know. Owners Manual??? I have seen Ipod acc. for sale at Crutchfield. Their sales guys are the best. I would say the RCAs are outputs front and rear that are controlled by the fade control. but then again just a guess. Owners manual??

Thanks for the model #. It helped me help you. You need one of these:

thanks for the help guys.

yeah, the definitive answer is what Robbie said, you need the IP-Bus adapter. It plugs into the purplish/bluish port on the back of the cd player and you need RCA jacks to convert from your Ipod to the ipbus adapter. Also, you will have to turn the radio's aux function to On, because by default the Pioneers have them turned off.
Turn off radio, then hold Function key down...a menu will come up and turn the AUX function on.
This will allow you to play the Ipod through your deck, however I'm not sure if they have the adapters to actually control the Ipod through your deck yet, it's been awhile since I was all about some stereo goodness.

also you should be able to get one of those cables from Audio Crafters, I know Circuit City doesn't have them, because I used to work there and I still had to get my ipbus adapter for my DVD player through Audio Crafters.

Good job Davis if you have anymore questions those guys at Crutchfield know thier sh!t. Even if it was $10 more I would buy from Crutchfield before even stepping into AC audio!

I've bought stuff from crutchfield before, and their service is always awesome.
