We left around 4:30 from the Mineral Wells rest stop.
We had 6 cars and 10 people between us.
The trip down was a good drive until Jeremy's Beretta overheated. We had to leave it on the side of the road, until the return trip.
We arrived around 6:00 just as the track was ready for business. Thursday is Grudge night aka Test N Tune night. $10 bucks to drive and $10 to watch. They allow time trials until 8:00 so you can find your "dial in". Then you are able to register for the bracket races. You put what you think you will run and the key is to be as consistent as possible. Fast doesn't win here, being right on with every run does. IF you put a dial in of lets say 10.00 and you go faster such as a 9.89. You are eliminated.
Once they have moved through two rounds, they open it back up for anyone again.
All total I got 7 runs in. It was a humid night, I wore jeans which was a big no no. Shorts for sure next time. If I have one complaint with myself, it would be the LAUNCH. Wheel hop owned me. I tried everything, I had already lowered my tire pressure to around 30 psi. I launched @ 3k,4k,5k,6k all with the same results. Dumping the clutch/feathering it, you name it. The lower I launched, minimized wheel hop to a certain degree, but I ran slow. My reaction times were great, or at least I thought. My 60ft's on the other hand sucked a$$. The few launches were I revved to 5-6K I got out of the whole with minimal spin/hop but when 7K came screaming up, it would bounce/hop to the point it would make me hit my limiter... So that was discouraging. I am gonna look into some struts to see if I an help keep the front end down.
On with the times...
I had hopes of breaking into the 8's...well it didn't happen. My best time of the night was a 9.095 @ 80.03 mph with a 2.19 60ft. That wasn't bad. I was trapping high, many cars were hitting 78-9 and hitting the 8's with lower 60fts....(jordan). So if I can work on the launch I am guranteed 8's for sure. I am around the 14.00 mark in the quarter...which is ok, but not where I want to be.
Tuning, is a major issue with me right now. I am blowing unburnt fuel out my tailpipe. I know I am missing out on some good h/p by running so rich, but I didn't want to take a chance on blowing my engine..
So next trip back, I am gonna look into some tuning w/ a wideband o2 and some better shocks/struts to hold the power....
Jordan's best of the night I believe was a 8.71 @ 80mph. Great run....awd helped him get out of the whole with ease.
We left around 10:30 and stopped and pushed Jeremy's car back off the road, where he is going to pick it up later. We took a different route and made it home in an hour or so.
Overall, it was a great time, so some fast cars, had fun and learned a little bit about myself and my car....
Hopefully next time there will be more of us..... 8)
