I will be installing new cam shafts in my 2003 Evolution VIII this weekend. I am going to be taking pictures and doing a write-up of the interesting stuff. I'll try not to bore you too bad.
In the mean time, I plan on using this post as a "scratch pad" to write down note to myself. As you will see, there will be a bit of maintenance going on over the weekend as well. The install will be taking place in Man, WV... my parents house. My dad has a lot more tools than I have. My brother will be helping with the install.
Things to take to Man:
jack
ramps
cams
cam cover gasket
timing / balance shaft belts (just in case)
timing belt tensioner
timing belt tensioner tool
oil filter
oil filter "socket"
BG Syncroshift
Mitsubishi Diaqueen gear oil
spark plug socket
spark plug gap gauges
torque wrench
lug nut socket
zip ties (check to see if I have any)
Mechanix gloves
rubber gloves
Things to buy:
cam lube
Mobil 1 10W-30 (5 quarts)
spark plugs BPR7ES
antifreeze
funnel
clear hose for funnel

no cam gears?
Nope. The little bit of extra power I could gain from them isn't worth the risk of the bolts coming loose and screwing up my engine. Just my opinion.
when are you gettin it tuned?
Feb 4th at Buschur on the Mustang dyno by Al Friedman with a EcuTek
Is anyone allowed to come help/watch/hang out?
If you wanna drive 3hrs to Man, WV... you're more than welcome to come help/drink/watch/critisize/etc.

Well, they're in. Everything went well. Car has a nice burble to it at idle. Took a little longer than expected. I'll post more details/pictures later.

How does the new power band feel?
No movFasters.
I'm not gonna romp on it untill I get it tuned. I don't want to risk running it lean.

Why would you need to keep tension on the crank pulley? Just to keep timing marks lined up? Which you would only do if you were keeping the same timing belt right? Please tell me you changed your timing belt.

Please tell me you changed your timing belt.
No, I've got 10,000 more miles to go. Plus there is little time that would be saved by doing them at the same time. I have a new timing and balance shaft belt in my garage. It's actually a little harder to change the belts than to change the cams. I kept the stock cam gears as well.
