I have a little problem with my brake system. When I drive it after like the first 1/2 hr of driving, the brakes tend to lock, or stick. If I pull off the road, and turn the car off, the brakes will slowly release, and I can drive the car the rest of the day no problem. When it's cold, they tend to work fine longer, but, i loose pressure... other times it'll work just fine. Any suggestions?

That sounds like the exact same problem I am having with my BMW. I havent taken mine apart to see what is wrong yet but my guess as of now is that the piston is sticking, causing the pads and rotor to be in constant contact, creating constant friction, creating extreme heat, creating rotor expansion, creating the stick.
I would tell you to pull your wheel off and examine everything, even take the caliper off and check it for debris or excessive rust. Your caliper may need rebuilt.
As long as you let your car sit w/out bein driven I'd say it's a good possibility that like he said the piston is sticking.

Is there a way to better lubricate the piston, or do I just need new ones? The caliper and rotor were both replaced with in a yr ago, and it had the same problem before i wasnt driving it. So they have less than a yr worth of wear/use on them. Would a master cylinder be the problem? Is there a way that it would not respond correctly?

If it is only one rotor/caliper then I doubt it being the master cylinder, though it is possible. Just take the caliper off and take a look at it. That will be just about the best way to tell.

if you bought a reman from like auto zone or advance, theres your problem
how about trying the brake hose!!!! when you hit the brakes it is under pressure but when it is slow to return would be the brake hose!!! greg go back to school and learn some mechanics before u start knocking the parts!!!! the failure of parts is usually the insaller!!!!!!!!

You can take the piston out of the caliper and inspect it if you want. remove the caliper and use compressed air to force the caliper out. ( were the brake fluid line goes.

I'll get into it tonight or tomorrow, if it is sticking, will it just look rusted or something? Is there a way to lubricate it, or do I just have to replace the whole thing?

if its not too bad just surface rust you can just take that off. Sometimes moisture gets behind the rubber boot especially if the car sits for a while which is what happened to mind.

torq, you know the paqrts suck, i just sell them. Im not gonna hold any loyalty to them cause i dont get paid enough to say "ohh, thats gonna last you forever!" Usually ill give them the truth like "Yeah, the economy reman is alright, if you plan on replacing it every so often, now if you go with the new one for just a couple bucks more, depending if theres other problems of course."
thats how you do it torqie boy
oh yeah, and my uniform is better 8)
anyways, whats with every other person trying to start crap on this forum. Thats prolly why everyones like "blahh" to it now, except for a few that stick around.
so u work for advance? did not know that! but having an attitude like that u would not be an employee of mine very long!! knowledge in your job is everything, that will help u suceed in your job!!! that being said it is a wonder that u can even afford to eat!!!!!!
Haha dood if I ever went in to buy something an the employee was like "eh, that thing is crap" I would prob laugh my ass off. It's pretty much common knowledge tho that about anything electrical like starters ect. from Advanced are peices of shit.

there are knowledgeable people at advance and autozone? I got so pissed off at those people i just go online and get the part number because i got tired of being told they didn't know what i was talking about or they didn't have the part when i knew they did. I actual had someone tell me they didn't have a piston ring compressor. i was like man there is the picture of it on the matt right next to your hand that shows all your rental tools.

yeah,i didnt say they were crap. its common knowledge with every reman part doesnt last as long as a new one. The reason I said they "sucked" was because i went through 3 alternators with advance, which were in a bad batch. They were gotten rid of, but after changing it out 3 times, you's day it'd suck too.
Ohh, and torq, arent you like the 2nd assistant manager? I wouldnt be working for you now would I?
Im not saying im COMPLETELY knowledgeable like some of you (torq)thought i was saying, but ill be sure to make that as clear as day next time

thats freaking auto zone for you. next time tell whoever to check the books. We dont have those mats out, we just have to look in the book, or on the catalog on the computer. I dunno if auto zone does this but you can order the stuff online, and if we have it, it will be waiting for you at the counter :P

Um Riggs would tell you it is crap I think thats one reason he is working at Auto Value now. But either way this WAS a post about a brake problem so did you look at the caliper piston yet? once you get it freed up does it stay free until you shut the car off and it sits a while?

I looked at it, and it all looks pretty clean. I didnt let the car sit for more than a week at a time. I took it out my road and back, so that kind of a problem wouldnt occur.
It's also both pistons that are sticking, not just one like I thought. I bought a mastercylinder and its on its way. I'll replace that, and drain all the fluid out, and redo them and I'll go from there. It is an 88, I dont know if the fluid has ever been changed, or if it really needs to or not. But, it cant hurt. I changed the fluid in my motorcycle, and it had brown chunks floating in the resivoir.
If just 1 is sticking I would say the problem is not your master cylinder. Why didnt you just buy a new caliper?

or you could just up grade to twin piston or better and not have to ever worry about it

It's an 88 hatch, it could have drum brakes all around and get by..
