What kinda kicker subs? I have 2 Phoenix Gold Titanium Power Q 15's, in a custom ported box. with a 500 watt amp they hit 147.1 decibels. Ive got them wired @ 2 ohms right now pushing 600 watts a piece ot each sub..I have a 2400 Watt Audiobahn HCT amp. Loudness.....

I was there at 11-11:15 and there were only (probably the same) 8 vehicles there, and maybe one of them was actually show worthy.

Jason Fye with the red crx. He had my 2 12" Kicker Solobarics and my Hiofonics Brutus 1500 watt amp. The subs are in a sealed 3/4" MDF box the box has a divider so each sub is running right in about the minium air requirements of .88 cu.ft they deffintaly hit nice though, i miss having them in my car :-(.

I wonder how my single Alpine Type R 12 would do?
1000 watt dual voice coil sub?? 8)

The seems like it would be a nice sounding sub. I figured the alpine subs were more for Sound Quality rather then SPL.

Well its a Type R its got to be good.lol Yeah i saw his crx he was tuning it didnt see anyone with him though. I should have registered my car there looked like more trophys than cars.

Type R's are definitely more for SQL than SPL. I would think that those 2 12's would hit a lot higher in a CRX than 137 butt i could be wrong as usual. When I listened to them in his CRX it seemed like the amp either needed tuned really badly or there was something wrong with the box. They were loud butt they just didn't hit very well imo. I feel like my 2 10's would have slaughtered them. *shrugs shoulders*

i tihnk it might of been the way the subs were facing inside of his car also. Before the comp. the subs were facing towards the front of the car but then he switched them around so that they faced the other way. Also i tihnk the meter is messed up because last year the jl truck that usually hits 160's or so only hit like in the mid 140's thats y he didnt compete this year.

Could you or someone please explain SQL vs SPL??
Thanks.... 8)

I can explain SPL better then i can explain SQL. SQL stands for Sound Quality Level my basic understanding is you are basically trying to make your car seem like a home stereo system in Dolby Surround sound format. When people ask what their car should sound like people reply by saying go to an audio stereo and find the best Home theater there and play your music on it. SPL (Sound Pressure Level) is basically a contest of who can squeeze the most air into a certain space. My understanding of SPL is that its a measurement of the amount of air your subwoofers can move. Some competition vehicles can actually make you puke because it's so intense.

Its not the sub that matters or how big it is..What matters is the box. Ive seen 1 person hit a 147.1 with 500 watts, and a 162.1 with 900 watts, in the same box. If u wanna get into SPL and alla that stuff talk to Kevin better known as Zeus from marietta, big black guy that squeezes into a small yellow focus, or his buddy Mike Albert who drives a yellow nissan something, ugly, but is very very loud..I have mikes # if anyone would want it.
The JL truck isn't all its hyped up to be, yeah it has 8 JL 15" w3's...with w6's, he could've hit alot louder. Plus he has a sealed box, in SPL you wanna let out as much air as possible..and with no way of the air getting out..its not gonna be as loud. But seeing him a couple of times parked, setting off car alarms, I do give him props he's doin his thing, but if he's doin SPL he needs to change some things...

yea i know Zeus and mike them guys know there systems and how to get the SPL's out of any car or setup.. and know exactly what to do... Some of you guys met mike the other night when we took a cruze to marietta he had the little ugly yellow car.. and was asking about a 91 prelude or something if you remember...

Yeah, My subs/box are Zeus's old setup, he sold em to me cuz he was wantin a single JBL GTo 12 that would hit 150 decibels, now thats insane loud for 1 sub.

if I remember if you go to an actual IASCA event they do a Sound Quality which they measure the curve of you system looks like a EQ display, to see how flat it is and obviously the judges listen for the quality and I think you get exrtra points for DB or spl level. Now DB drags are a different story its all about sound pressure level and you cant just dump in 20 subs and get that the top guys have siganl delay processors that delay the signals to each sub by millisecs so the sound waves wont cancel each other out and decrease the output level.
ramrod

I hear that. guys that compete in DB Drag have put so much time and money into their stereos to squeeze every last bit of spl they can. From cementing the door panels so nothing vibrates, to using locks like those used on vault to make sure no air can get out. The interior of those cars are basically made of wood set at different angles to try and reflect the bass to get the most out of the interor seats are removed and everything as long as the car can be pulled into the lane.
