For the cd you can use one of those polishers that you place the cd in and use a hand crank. I was at Best Buy in charleston one time and they were demo them and told me to get the worst cd I they used it and it worked perfectly but the polishing made the cd look a little swirly from the polishing but the important thing is it worked.

I've had 3 or 4 different cd player head units, a Pioneer DEHP-215 (loved it though it's old skool) a generic cd player, JVC (didn't like it) and finally my Jensen MP3-115 (or some similar number).
The Jensen has Aux. Line In, Line Out, am, 3 fm bands, plays CD's and decodes mp3, and mixed-mode data & mp3 discs. I've had it in 3 different cars, maybe four. It's ridden with me for nearly 2 or 3 years, and seen countless tens of thousands of miles. I smoke in the car as well.
I've used the CD's with brushes embedded in them with limited success. Most recently due to ash and road dust the eject CD-rollers were basically so coated with dust they would barely eject the cd, sometimes only ejecting it about 1/8".
I completely dis-assembled the head unit (ill-advised unless you know what you're doing) and cleaned the lense which was suprisingly not that dirty, however the rollers I clean with alcohol, and some q-tips & squares of cotton. Dear god, the amount of gunk that the eject rollers track up is disgusting, every single CD going in or out gets the dirt on the top & bottom rolled onto them.
