I just got done installing a throttle body for my Focus ('00 non-SVT, MTX 5 speed), and the idle is fine, but when I just barely touch the gas pedal, the revs shoot up as if in WOT. What could be wrong here, and how can I fix it?

is the throttle electronically controlled or cable controlled?

Ummm... I guess it's a cable, but there is a throttle position sensor, so electronic too?

lol its cable, ford didnt start experimenting using electronic controlled ones till 03 or 04 on some of their engines.
take the cable off and check for freedom of movement. If its moving and not snagging, check the throttle body. Theres some points that need lubricant. Is it a stock throttle body or an aftermarket?

It's an aftermarket 65 mm one.

everything sealed tight, no gaps, leaks etc, all your vaccum hoses attatched in the proper places?

Yup, as far as I can tell.

spray some carb cleaner around any seals and see if you notice any change (like it sputtering)
Use starting fluid, if it rev's then you found a leak.
I think it's weird that it idles fine but then revs to wot when you barely touch it. It does this while manually operating the throttlebody?

Yup, I manually open it about 2 mm or so and it just takes off. I've been told my TPS is bad, so I have a new one on its way to Napa. It should be here tomorrow morning, and hopefully that'll fix it.

That's about the only thing it could be.. odd it idles fine tho

It's working a little bit better now. I still get to full throttle way too soon IMO, but maybe that's the nature of the beast.

maybe the computer needs to be tuned for the extra airflow?

Possibly. I think the next thing I'll get is an SCT chip with a tune.
