My friends and I are starting a cover band just to make some quick cash playing at bars and such. Me being only 19 and a non-drinker keeps me from knowing too much about the bars in the Parkersburg area. Could somebody out there tell me all the bars they know of that have bands from time to time? Thanks.

In P-burg I think the old gay bar (used to be true colors or something like that) has bands. Also Cameo, Pump Room, can't remember anymore

In Marietta/outlying areas you can check out the old Slapshotz bar (think it's called Riverside or Dockside now), Brewery, Outskirts..

I've never been in a bar before though, you'll just have to call around

Awesome, thanks. Hopefully we can work on this stuff soon. What kind of stuff normally goes over pretty well at the places you guys mentioned?

I dono, I hate live bands in this town cause they all suck. If I walk in a bar an there's a band I turn right around an walk out instantly.

Most of my bar-band experience is centered around Marietta.. Brewery, former Slapshotz, etc etc. The Misty Blue (rt 821 near the interstate) has live bands.

Cover bands generally go over pretty well, just look at bands like Fewmm.. they've been around playing covers for a long time.

Generally cover bands go over OK in Marietta. Usually they'll give you a chance with a cheap booking price, and if it goes over well you'll get asked to come back. Sometimes they are lax on calling, so you'll have to stop by and keep yourself at the top of their minds.

Basically, most bars seem to like having the music around that you'd generally hear on 103.1 The Bear. Modern popular rock music like Nickelback seems to go over well. Basically anything that has been overplayed on the radio or in the Top 40 in the last 10 years is a safe bet. You always have to throw in a classic rock song that drunk chicks can dance to, AC/DC - Shook me all night long is a crowd favorite. Throw in a few original pieces as well, just to keep it real.

I agree, keep a good mix of fairly new stuff.
The only band experiences I actually had a blast at were in Evansville Indiana. There were 2 bands that played at this bar we frequented that kicked ass. It wasent really so much that they were good as it was they were fun.

One minute theyre playing something from oh, say Three days grace, the next minute theyre doin their rendition of No sleep til' brooklyn from Beastie Boys.

Most all the bands here are long haired douchebags who do the same crap over an over which I think sucks when even done by the original artists. Then they have really no show going on, just them playing, no personality, no crowd interaction.

While on stage run your mouth, hit on chics, invite a few to the stage, who cares. Just do something to keep ppl interested. Then even if you do suck at least youre entertaining

Cool, we'll keep that in mind. Sooooo Smoke On The Water? Hahaha, it was the first thing that came to mind when we got the idea to play in bars.
