I am looking for some cheap full swap options for my CRX.

Its a 1991 CRX HF with no power, I thought I could stand driving it around but 62 Hp just isnt enough. I was gonna sell it, but it is one of the lightest cars you can buy and I figure I should stick with it.

Heres the options I have been looking at:

d15B SOHC Vtec 130Hp
d16z6 SOHC Vtec 125HP and 108Tq
ZC SOHC 120Hp and 100tq
ZC DOHC 129hp and 106tq
d16a1 DOHC 118hp and 108tq

I am just basically looking for something cheap that I can swap right in

Leaning Towards the d15b vtec because I think it would be nice to have a quick little car with a little 1.5 in it.

I know Hmotorsonline has cheap motors with a great reputation but I know there are a lot more cheap sites out there also.

Any Help and info would be appreciated.

Forget the D16A1, it doesn't fit without modification.

ZC's are a good choice if you can find them in good condition...make sure you get a ZC tranny with it.

SOHC VTECs...either would be good. I prefer the Z6 though due to its commonality and ease of finding parts. With either engine you should get the proper ECU and convert the car to OBD1 to make it work properly. You will also have to acquire a cable tranny to go with it...either DX or Si. You do NOT want to use your HF tranny with any of these engines. DX is ok...if you turbo it later.

Thats it, all I'm good for at this time of night.

I second what Kurt says.

D16z6 would be my choice. Cheap, quick, reliable, and good on gas, what more could you ask....

The zc would be the easiest swap but be prepared to rebuild it as many are high milage no matter what the importer says. The d15b vtec is a nice Jdm motor. But as said with any vtec motor go with the wire conversion and not the ghetto vtec activation as you will not get the added fuel you would normally get. There always the A6. Also the zc tranny is the best tranny you can get besides a hybrid type.

Thanks for all the info fellas.

I am pretty set on going with the d15b vtec after a lot of research. Light, powerful and rev happy and very cheap.

I would go with the ZC, but as mentioned it seems the reliablity and the chance to find a strong motor are slim to none. Ive seen more complaints on these than compliments.

I will not be using the HF tranny whatsoever, that damn thing is getting thrown to the side of the road. I already have an Si tranny sitting in the garage anyways.

I know I will have to get the p28 or p08 ecu and a OBD0 to OBD1 conversion harness but they dont look to be that expensive at all.

Should be fun

d16z6, keep your hf manifold, buy a t-25, and make a perfect custom turbo kit.

my choice

oh and I would go with the d16z6...you can usually find them cheaper than the d15 vtec...or from my research I did anyway...found mine for 400, motor, tranny, ecu and the whole car...even though it was wrecked...but I do know where you can get a d16z6, motor/tranny/ecu for like 750 i think, has around 69000 miles on it...and it is in town

Sorry for the late reply. I think I am not even going to even mess with my CRX at all. I am going to sell it. Thanks for the help though and good luck on your project.
