Well, Iam burnt…. Literally! I must admit that the whole auto crossing idea is better than I anticipated. Although watching gets a little repetitive after a while, I imagine that competing is a totally new ball game. Their were a lot of different cars out their today. Some were real nice and other ppl were on a McDonald’s budget. That’s what I really liked about it. It looks like an inexpensive, fun hobby. I don’t really know if my simple protégé would be competitive or not, but Ill try next year for sure anyways. Anyone take any pictures or video? I forgot my camera.

You could run a lot of solos bettering yourself as a driver before the car becomes the weak link. The driver is a bigger overall factor in solo relative to other disciplines.

By all means do it!

thanks, I sure will. I seen your car their today. Those are pretty rare cars for that kinda thing right? It sure looks like you have put alot of time into it. Did you build it yourself? What kinda times did you get today? I was gonna go for a ride with someone today, but I had my little boy with me so I couldnt. Do you travel all over for scca events?

I wasn't able to be there today, as I was instructing a clinic at Putnam Park yesterday. My dad ran it. I talked to him earlier tonight, and I think he said he got down to a minute flat. (?)

The car is an old pilot car that escaped the crusher to originally be built to run the old IMSA Firehawk series. Its first race was the last IMSA street race in Columbus in 1988. It now has ~15,000 miles on it, all on track.

I raced it in SCCA Regionals at Mid-Ohio from '97-'03, and since then, dad and I have been sharing it to run NASA HPDEs (track days). Only other track I've had it on was a couple trips to IRP.

Sweet. Youve raced at Mid Ohio! Thats awesome. A couple of my friends and I are planning on going to Nelson Ledges in Ohio for a fun day. Its $120, but its all worth it to me. Id really love the opportunity to go out on a real road course and push the envelope.

I parked beside your dad, JD. We talked for a bit. Too bad you had better things to do(jealous). It would have been nice to see you again.

I was very surprised to see Travis there. That's a neat old Civic he has.

 ...to the idiot who spun his tires(tire) leaving the parking lot. There were 91 people there that would have loved to kick your but on the race course. Nah, you'd rather just spin your tire and look like a fool.

If it was a rwd vehicle, puttin down serious hp an melting the tires off, I'd say sweet

Tho im sure it was some jackass in a stock neon/civic/cavalier or something similar

Actually I was following him. I apologize for him doing that though. I didnt support his actions. I accelerated hard too, but I wouldnt ever spin the tires on my FWD. I understand why you dont want ppl doing things like that.
On another note though, the cruise inn today was awesome. I wish you would have came. be paitent, another similar one is in the works right now for July 1st. Rt. 26 anyone?

I really wanted to make it, but I had to attend my daughters birthday party in Logan County WV today. Maybe I'll make it out to the next one.

Yeah, it's a hoot to drive. Kinda hard to stay ahead of it. I autocrossed it with him 7-8 yrs ago at a local event in IN.

Hopefully, we can meet up again at the NASA Nat'ls or something. I won't be at either the July or August NASA events.

Can you even spin your tires in the first place
j/k..

I couldnt make it, My buddy in his Si was gonna come too, but with my suspension issues we didnt go. Maybe next time car/weather/time permitting.

not really , Its really hard on everthing up front to spin the tires. Too much weight up their. It will, but I figure it would break after three or four good ones. I used to do it all the time in my mustang. Mustang burnout= enjoyable, FWD burnout=not for me

Track Days/HPDEs are a blast, and I can't recommend doing them highly enough. Very good bang for the buck. Davis and Robbie on here have also run track days, and can vouch too. Ted with the red LS1 RX7 has been running with NASA the past few years, but isn't on here.

When NASA runs Mid-Ohio, you get four 20-minute sessions a day. A little higher driving/waiting ratio than autocross, but with a higher entry fee.

I've been driving around Mid-Ohio since my 14th b-day, starting with karts, then racing with SCCA, and now instructing with NASA. I also work with The Mid-Ohio School as an instructor. I think my wife and I see my parents there more than back home. :D

Exelent event.

Great turnout with a great group and I hope to see some of you down at more Charleston events.

Thanks for the Miata for the day Kurt, I owe you one.

And a Big Thanks out to Davis (loosing weight?) and the rest of the MOV area people that worked hard to make this event work.

Said "some jackass" is a friend of ours. He bought the car new, and originally solo'd it in the '70's with SWVR, as well as the old MOVSCC. He's primarily been running it in HSR/SVRA vintage events for the last several years.

I think he can do as he pleases with his car rather than cater to forum wang waving.

Sure is. Car has ton of grip riding on 315 sized r-compounds. He (Martin) also had fastest time of the day out of 91 cars.

That Celica sure was quick...it was cool watching you guys, you all drove great! That Mustang II that was running was pretty sweet as well, it was kinda cool to see the blue oval cars doing well in the event.

death to all hackers

He can do whatever he wishes, I never said he couldnt. I just dont like what it is he is infact doing.

That was the most fun I've had at any sort of automotive event in years. :D I'm very happy with my results since it was essentially my first time. Last year doesn't count because I had almost bald tires in the rain.

Did anybody get any good pics of my car? The blue Mazda 3.

I guess I found out why you are not supposed to hit cones. Not for the fact it kills the run but because it takes half a day scrubbing the black and orange rubber off the car! Didnt notice it at the autox but when I got home ant started to wash the car I had a rubber streak almost the length of the car! Took half a can of bug atr remover and some elbow grease! WOOHOO battle scars! Note to self dont hit cones.
