Ok if I was a High school student and brought a pocker knife to school I could be suspended for the year. But if I am a Marietta College student and bring a AK47 1000 rounds of ammo and a shotgun to school they suspend me for three days???????

“I feel safe,” he said afterwards. “The situation, I know for a fact, is contained.

Yea, I know if I had any plans to go postal on a school they would def be foiled by a 3 day suspension.. I'd def learn my lesson and never try that again.

If he would of had a dime on him they would have thrown him in the river.
Guns are ok, but Drugs!? NO!!

I'll bet more than a few gun-toting rednecks have attended class at MC with a gun in their vehicle because they were going hunting after class. Hard to say what his intentions really were, but I think some of the people that the Times interviewed were overreacting just a bit.

Ohio firearm regulations say that you cannot be within a 300ft. radius of a school while in possession of a firearm. How the dude is only getting a 3 day suspension is beyond me.

Was it really an AK-47? The article doesn't say anything about it?

I take big issue with folks who carry firearms into the wrong places, but I'm curious... if his vehicle were parked on the street 300ft from school grounds, technically he is obeying the law. I'm just wondering about this because they didn't really give specifics as to the location of his vehicle, although they did say that he lived on campus (not a commuter student) so that would lead one to believe that his vehicle was parked on a campus lot.

Some interesting tidbits from the most recent Marietta Times article:

In addition to recent bouts of school violence nationally fresh in their minds, Sleyzak said students were painting a picture of their fellow classmate as someone who had “weirded them out” on many occasions.

Sleyzak said friends in the college’s petroleum engineering program with the student said he had brought bullets to class on more than one occasion.

“He would spin a bullet around on his desk and if the professor asked him to stop, he would point it at him,” he said. “The general opinion of the students is that he should be barred from campus. I think it would be absolutely insane if he wasn’t kicked off campus for this.”

Hull said the word among students was that the car contained a pistol, shotgun, assault rifle and 1,000 rounds of ammunition.

That last quote in the paper may have been where the AK-47 thing came from.

Interesting stuff. There was a case somewhat like this on O.U.'s campus a while back, but I think the student was expelled and the whole thing kinda faded into obscurity.

If I was a teacher..

1) I would wonder why in the hell you have a bullet w/you in the first place
2) Would take it
3) Would notify whoever the hell it is you need to notify about it

And if the jackass pointed the bullet at me, as to threaten/scare me

4) Drag him out back and beat the shit out of him... then get fired.

haha that's the beauty of being a tenured Professor... even if you beat the crap out of a student, since you have a legitimate reason it'd still take an act of congress to get you fired.

Whatever happened to going to college to drink beer and sleep with hot girls??? Why are all of these kids shooting people and bringing guns to school...geez...have fun...get drunk..get laid. Now that I think about it most of the high school or college shootings have been done by some pretty geeky looking mofo's that probably don't pull much ass, thats probably why they go postal.
