Whats your favorite engine and why? Racing, stock, modified, crate, custom whatever.......
Mine top fuel blown V8.

500 cubic inches, 7500 hp ,45.5psi of boost,and eating 77 gallons a minute.

Rips quick, revs high, and has plenty of power. It's like a 2 stroke.
Plus they have a unique sound.. and look awesome w/the x-ram intake

I'm sure I'll get laughed at, but I think my 'favorite' engine is the GM 3800... It's just so smooth, decent response, a little power when it's called for, and decent fuel economy. It's just a wonderful balance.

3800 nice motor served GM forever loved it before the balance shafts and when it had a turbo on it in the GNs and that bad TA.

DZ302 another great GM engine built for the Trans Am series awesome rod/stroke ratio. High revs (for the day) one of the best 1st gen GM small block motors. Good choice Jay. Anyone else??

Mine is the 2JZ-GTE. You can go to YouTube and find videos of one running so smoothly that a coin can be placed on edge on the cam tower cover with the engine running and NOT fall off.

Not to mention it was over-engineered from the drawing board, and with simple BPU & bolt ons can produce an easy 400 to 600hp DD.

For reliability: Toyota 22R(E), Ford 300ci Inline Six and (al)most all things Honda
For power, it's a tossup. A lot of good, powerful engines out there these days with lots of potential.
May seem odd, but sound really has a lot to do with the fun of cars... Love the sound of the Aston Martin 6 litre V12 in the current DB9 and the scream of the 5.7 litre V10 in the Porsche Carrera GT

V-10 Formula 1 engine.
850-900hp @ 19,000 rpm
I'll never forget hearing the scream of a F1 engine at Indy in 2000. Purely amazing.

Ah I was wondering when the F1 engines would come in. I am more impressed by the 80's very small displacement turbo F1 engines.....

Solid build off of a proven platform, the VG series continues to beat down even the current VQ series, just a beautiful piece of work that can post some nice big numbers with a little work. Gas mileage isn't too kind, but, who cares?

Actually high revs even by todays standard. With the cross ram (2x4) intake which was a dealer intalled option power peaked at 7600rpm at just under 480hp. This is well below the advertised hp rating of 290. I have a book here with the original GM dyno sheet scans, sketch sheets, prototype info ect.

Another favorite engine of mine is the 1600cc. A good platform for lots of options.

It's a v8.. it doesnt appear to be iron.. and it's def not an LS1.. tho there's a 1 in the name.
Enough torque to turn a 69 Camaro into one dangerous machine.

Easy I want one and its a ZL1
Car & Driver I think it was? test drove a ZL1 equipped 69' Copo Carmao and tho I dont recall the exact words it went something like "The car is like driving on a sheet of ice."
The ZL1 by far exceeded the hp/tq limitations that suspension and mainly tires which were available in that era could handle.
