Ive tried to figure this out before with no avail. I really dont want to throw all kinds of parts at this car, but here it goes. Im getting a thump from my passenger side. Ive replaced the drivers side wheel bearing, passenger is 2 years old, axles appear to be ok, and new front tires. You can hear it at 25mph and increases with speed. Turn hard to the left, no change, hard to the right, no change. You put the car in park, you can feel a vibration in the brake pedal, but in drive and neutral its ok. Theres no pull when you brake, and the car drives straight. Rear tires are about 15k old and are off brand, didnt get them balanced though. What gets me is that its not showing any of the probs with a wheel bearing. Motor mounts are good, heck ones brand new.
Having a trailer hitch and everything this car is pretty nice to have to throw my bike rack & bike on it and go, I just want it to be safe as possible when I go on long trips.

My informant tells me you may need to check out the transaxle bearing.

cavalier and buff should not be used in the same sentence lol. In all honestly though its a good car, ill just drive it till it dies since I got it for cheap

I hear you there, but he's a pretty good mechanic... I believe him when he makes a diagnosis... although it could just be that I totally suck when it comes to troubleshooting...

It was a wheel bearing, I guess whoever changed it before forgot to put the seal on it (even though from the factory it didnt have a seal) but I guess the aftermarket wheel bearing need the seal or they will rust up like this one did.
Oh well, Im just gonna sell it and get something to mess around with.

maybe I should listen to myself more... I remembered my dad having a problem with a wheel bearing, and two of them went very quickly, and finally the third one hasn't been bad... that was what came to mind... but I never listen to me so...
g/l w/ the sale

Problem #1....it's a Cavalier..lol. I owned one myself...a 1984 sedan..just speaking from experience that thing was a turd bucket. It was rather fun to take muddin' and run over animals and mailboxes with, ok maybe it wasn't too bad of a car afterall. g/l with the sale..with gas prices going up you may actually get decent money out of it.

I got bored today and checked the bolts on the new motor mount that the chevy dealer installed before I bought it. Well guess what, the bolts were at least 10 turns too loose. Drove it around afterwards, and it helped the thumping, but the wheel bearing is still growling.
