To ease the minds of RX-8 owners and owners-to-be, Mazda has reportedly decided to extend the warranty coverage for the 2004-2008 Renesis rotary engine for a period of eight years or 100,000 miles. Mazda even goes so far as to offer reimbursement to those who've spent money on engine repairs before 100,000 miles. This seems like a nice measure made in good faith on Mazda's part. After all, most educated owners of the rotary-powered cars knew what they were getting when these purchases were made, and the engine was already covered under the same basic warranty that comes standard with all Mazda vehicles. Nice work, Mazda.

NA rotary motors have always been very reliable.. Im mean there very few moving parts.. Its when Mazda started boosting the engine and killling apex seals, thats when reliability died. That and poor cooling systems.

I agree and disagree.
The 87-92 turbo's were reliable as long as you didnt dick w/them.
And even in a slightly modded state, if done properly, were not too bad.
The N/A rotary's tho, yea, they lasted forever.
It's nothing to see a 1st gen w/300k miles on it.

I heard that the NA rotary motors were reliable too...but go to any of the RX8 forums online and you will see case after case of the cars having to go back to Mazda for new motors, and these were on NA cars. I know that the forums seem to attract these kinds of people (as in people with problems with their cars/dumbasses that can't drive) but it does seem to be a kind of warranted concern when buying a RX8.

I see Kurt draining the oil in his RX8 at 95,000 miles and going to a track day.

I would never make it to 95k in the 8 year time limit.
It actually felt pretty good on the stock tires down at Road Atlanta last year but it could definitely use wider tires if it were to be routinely used for that purpose.

If warranties protected against negligence the car companies would be out of business from all the morons in this area that don't know the gas pedal from the brake.
