Went to PIR tonight. Did my first drag race ever. It was a lot of fun, until I broke something after my 7th or 8th run. Thinking I broke the fork for 5th/Reverse. Managed to get the transmission OUT of gear, then didn't want to go back into gear. THEN I was able to get it into gear but only for a minute. When I parked it @ the track, SHIFTER was in neutral, but tranny is permanantly in 5th gear... This sucks.
Also I went SLOWER on Falken Azenis RT-615 195-60-14's than I did with 215-60-14's of generic brand. My launches suck, I get wheel hop or wheel spin... This is a difficult sport to master, and one that I think I'd rather let others do such. I may got a second time later this summer, but for now I'm going to stick to auto-X, drifting and track days. Absolutely LESS abusive, even drifting.
Anyways, my fastest run was also my FIRST EVER run. Go me. Even with a retardedly slow reaction time.

Two things... You need to get your 60ft time down. With good sticky tires - at your power level - you can and should get at least 1.7 - 1.8 60ft times with some sticky tires.
Second, if you are shifting into 5th then you are either not using your upper rpms efficienty (shifting way too soon) or you have too steep of a gear (what gear are you running?).
At your MPH, you could be running about 12.0's to 12.2's.
Remember -0 for every tenth you reduce your 60ft, you make it up double on the other end - get your 60ft down to 1.8 and you should be setting pretty for a 12.2xx on the other end. Also, you may have caused the tranny breakage by running too many times in succession. If you ran 8 times quickly, then your tranny was probably so hot that breakage was inevitable on any of the runs after 3 or 4. You're lucky it lasted 8 runs. Did you cool down betweens? That would net you a good deal of ET also...
Since it is your first time down the track, I'll let you in on another common beginner mistake: when reading your time slip, your Reaction has nothing to do with your ET or MPH... it is a completely separate measurement. Some folks think that reducing your reaction will reduce your ET when it won't... just gives you bragging rights.

Awesome time! Sorry the tranny gave out though. Did you ever post up completed details? I may have missed it.
Generic or no, a 215 is wider than a 195.
If you arent going to run slicks, you arent gona drag.
Most ppl just do not understand that. You can have all the suspension in the world but if youre running street tires it isnt going to do a lot.
Also why in the hell are you in 5th gear? lol

Thanks for all the tips.
1. I'm in 5th gear because staying in 4th results in me hammering it off of the rev-limiter for the last bit of track.
2. That's because I'm running 4.30 gears in a stock LSD
3. I did run slicks, which were smaller in overall diameter which again contributed to slower times.
4. After hosing the intercooler with about 5/6 of a can of air duster prior to the first run (which was right off o the highway, no cool-down), the runs were essentially back to back with at most about 5 minutes inbetween.
5. I'm familiar with the reaction time, but as new as I am I appreciate all the tips I'm getting.
I'm making 407hp & 393tq @ the wheels. I HAD wanted to go when I had the ability to let the goddamned car cool down completely aside from coolant & oil (hosing the IC, IC pipes, & intake manifold with air duster). My car acts as if it has about another 75HP or more for the first 30 minutes it runs in the mornings. Noticably more power than in the afternoon or after being run & fully warm/hot.
I suppose it's a good thing I didn't cool it all down, I probably would have broke shit on the FIRST try.
