Edit: - Well the 16g that I had bought from a guy in Virginia, turns out to be a 14b instead. So, looks like I am right back where I was. (dealing with that now...see what happens) The exhaust leak is back, b/c last time we put the lowly 13g on there as a temp fix, we decided to put some Heavy duty threadlock, b/c the allen bolts kept backing out. So thursday night we could't get the allens out to put in my new gasket. I have a makeshift gasket in there now, that is leaking like a faucet. So I need a way to fix that. We started to strip the allens so we bolted the new turbo on, and it ran ok. Two days later, its exhaust leak city. Horrible...killing my boost once again. And now, since it has severe shaft play, its smoking, just like my old one! I think I am going to make a trip to Virginia and pay someone a visit....Anyone interested in a little vacation....?

Well...my supposed "16g" came in today (long story). So out with the puny 13g! Anyway I couldn't be patients so I started tearing into my car b/c I have been sick and tired of that annoying exhaust leak and only hitting 2-3 lbs of boost.

Ben (benformulals1) shows up around 9:00p.m and we take off the mani/turbo and disconnect the charge lines/vacuum lines/oil lines/downpipe. Easier said than done. We then start to disassemble the turbo from the mani and adapter plate. One of the bolts gets stuck and right as we are about to cuss it and throw it out Justin (narfdanarf) comes to the rescue. We regroup and get it apart. Once we are done laughing @ each other from telling jokes we reassemble the mess.

Hours later...lol....we are starting to bolt it back up to the car and Jordan (TeenEvOwner) shows up and gives us a break with some toys. He threw in a new cd for some much needed tunes and showed us his latest purchase, his "Supra". It was pretty quick to say the least. He just did an awd swap on it, rather impressive I must say.

With the last few bolts and lines hooked up, I started the beast up. No oil leaks, I was proud, we do good work. So out little venue took longer than expected. I have swapped this turbo numerous times, but we ran into several glitches. I have done the whole swap in as little as 2 hours. But tonight was not one of those nights. Car is back up and running, so once I get my other mods in place I will be a happy camper. I am back in the boost game.

Just a quick thanks again to the following:

Ben
Justin
Jordan

For doing most of the work...lol and coming down to hang out. I appreciate it. Without your help it wouldn't have gotten it done or had as much fun doing it.

Thanks guys. 8)

Ha ha...well lets see. Thursday while I was out, Ben saw me and honked, so when I got home from work around 5:00, I saw the package had arrived. So I started prepping it, so that when Justin got home from work we could work on it. Since I saw Ben and knew he was off, I gave him a shout. I also remembered a while back I was talking to Jordon on Aim and he said whenever I have a chance to work on my car, he wanted to see what it was all about. So I gave him a yell. It honestly was a last minute thing. I had really wanted to do it this weekend, but patience overtook rational thought and before I knew it we were done. So no hard feelings. I have been thinking about something for us to do as a group, other than the usual Sat night rituals. I will let you all know way in advance.... 8)

Having only ridden in it for the first time tonight, I still think it pulls strong and smooth.... regardless of the marginal clutch slippage and exhaust leak. I rather enjoyed it, hope to have one of my own some day. :)

Thanks Tim. I would agree that it pulls strong and smooth, but @ this time I am still rather unhappy with the whole thing. Exhaust leaks and blown turbo seals aren't my idea of fun. Just more time and money, oh well..I guess its why I'm in the game.... 8)

Modifying cars is neither easy or cheap... but it sure is fun!

[EDIT] Well, sometimes there are the cheap mods... Like gutting cats at midnight on a sunday with a power drill.

this is true. Well I think I am gonna try a few other things here soon with the turbo setup. I need to get my brakes, and clutch installed and then I will focus on making the power again....I just need to be patient.... 8)

Go to autozone and buy the brakes, I'll help you put them on... shouldn't take any time at all.

I will definatly take you up on that offer. I am ordering my rotors here within the week. Once they are in, I will have the pads, and we can make it a date.....

i know this is an old thread but it applys to my question, so which turbo are u now using? is it the 14b? im trying to figure out what type of turbo would be good for me.. after reading alot of that page from G2IC (http://www.beesandgoats.com/boostfaq/g2icturbo.html) that you posted, im learning about how to set up and what not to use... im really looking for a turbo with some lag in the lower Rpms so it reallly starts to spool around the 3-4 grand to gime that extra power where i need it..

14b...i highly recommed it, for cost/performace ratio...it's a good turbo
