Before driving around in Ferraris (http://jalopnik.com/5252193/steve-mcqueens-23m-ferrari-250-gt-lusso-what-can-brown-do-for-you) and Jaguars (http://jalopnik.com/5259325/steve-mcqueens-other-car-the-jaguar-xkss) at speed, Steve McQueen (http://jalopnik.com/tag/steve-mcqueen/) spent some time here. To commemorate his time served, there's now an annual car show.
The school is in Chino Hills (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chino_Hills,_California), California, self-described as (http://www.boysrepublic.org/whoweare.html) a “private, nonprofit, nonsectarian school and treatment community for troubled youngsters.” McQueen arrived here a troubled prepubescent street kid, remanded to the institute (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_McQueen#Early_life) by his violent stepfather. He credited the place with giving him a sense of focus and left at age 16 as a role model for the other boys.
McQueen would go on to direct some of his wealth and attention to Boys Republic, which now hosts a small car show every year in his honor.

Wonderful Los Angeles-based blog A Time To Get (http://www.atimetoget.com/) was there for this year’s event (http://www.atimetoget.com/2009/06/friends-of-mcqueen-car-show.html). It was Porsche-heavy and the pictures are beautiful in a very analog way.
