I own a Mark II (Second Generation) Toyota Supra (Celica Supra to get technical). The 85 was the last year for the Supra option package on the Celica. 1986 was the first official year of the split off of the Celica & Supra lines. My supra is unfortunately almost the very last point at which I could get a Supra and *not* get the nicer 7M-GE 3.0 liter DOHC straight six. I have the straight six 5M-GE 2.8 liter DOHC, factory rated @ 180hp.

The only real difference betwen a slight difference in bore/stroke, is that finding extras options for the 5M-GE is nearly impossible as compared to finding aftermarket stuff for the 7M-GE. (Like cams, and turbo kits).

It's my daily driver but I'd like to add more aftermarket bolt-on goodies to gain some extra HP. My eventual goal is to turn it into a Weeekend SCCA drifter that's a weekly daily driver.

I intend to replace all the shocks, replace all the bushings in the suspension (it has fully independant front & rear), as well as the bushings in the sway bars. Suprisingly it's very cheap to get the Polyeurethane bushings, something to the number of 8 bucks for a pair. I'll eventually get a 2.0 or maybe a 1.5 LSD conversion, i'm not positive what's in it now, I know it's got a LSD but it's only mildly posi-trac.

I also intend to gut the interior from the drivers seat back to save weight, and may invest in a set of rims, though I'm really fond of the stock supra rims, they're rather heavy (but they sure do take a beating).

Basically any one have suggestions for getting a bit more HP outta a 20 yro engine, with 153,000 miles on it? I already have Bosch Platinum +2's or whatever, and the 13 dollar K&N super-duty filter, Lucas Oil Stabilizer, and 3 quarts of Castrol GTX High Mileage.

I want her to last, for at least another year (when I intend to tear her down, and do an entire engine rebuild or swap in a 7M-GTE). I drive her hard (often hitting the 6600 rev-limiter). I really am impressed with the gobs of torque the 5M-GE really does have, even when you get above 5250rpm, I wonder what an aftermarket rev-limiter would do. Most likely adversely affect engine longevity and not much more I think.

My supra will be gaining some extra poundage due to the mp3-car (pc in car) system, but only maybe 30 or 40 lbs max (mainly attributed to the battery UPS). I don't care about not having AC, and I intend to remove & plug the AC compressor and condenser. The AC compressor will be replaced with a 65amp chevy alternator (to power the computer).

As for removing the interior, especially the seats, anyone have experience with this? Does it affect the chassis strength at all? I'm kinda toying with the extreme idea of adding a roll-cage, just well, because I've always wanted one, kind of like always wanting a PC in my car.

Are there regulations on custom built-rollcages? What about tube sizing? I've got the skills to build one, my welding & metal-working skills are superior enough I won first place in my county when I was 4-H. (Mind you that was Morgan county, redneck Central in Ohio... I beat out a BUNCH of other rednecks). Is the weight worth it? Any idea how much weight it adds? I'm too lazy to look up the lb/foot of a fixed size of pipe and then figure out the footage required for the installation. Well not too lazy just haven't measured the setup yet. So yeah flame away... or whatever.

And yeah, right now I'm looking at a header on ebay, only 188 for the pacesetter that other retailers sell for nearly double. So I've already considered a freer flowing exhaust, and I'm thinking about intake but that won't help too much. (intake wise)

I've also got plans to get the head ported & polished to match the header, and intake manifolds. I'm still looking into if it's possible to come upwith a 24 valve DOHC setup, or a way of squeezing in larger valves into the head.

if your planning on drift i think the roll cage would be worth the weight if it is dont right, it can incorporated into the rear strug towers and help a hell of a lot with the chassis flex. i'm not sure on the tube size but i think about an inch and a half is about standard. also makes it easy to tie in your top straps for your seat belt harness if you plan to use one. i always wondered what was available and what kind of potential the older supras had,but dont know much about them.

http://www.rabidchimp.com RabidChimp.com has some stuff for the Mark II's (82-86), but not much, not even cams. There are some cams that were made by HKS for the 5M-GE but they're really hard to find, and expensive at that. I know there have been a few people that have been kind enough to let their HKS cams for the 5M-GE be copied. However in doing so you get qustionable results as it requires a stock 5M-GE cam, then you have to have it welded up and then re-ground. This increases the chances of warping... which can create a buch of problems...

I'm seriously thinking of doing a 5M-GE to 7M-GTE engine swap. Though I'm a bit leery for spending the money for a JDM motor.

The plus side is that you easily jump right up in the HP gains, and the 7M-GTE bolts right in aside from an oil filter relocation and a few mintor alterations.

http://andy.supras.org.nz/ has a step by step walk-thru on how to perform a 5M-GE to 7M-GTE engine swap.

http://www.racetep.com/supra.html has highly modified 7mgte's for purchase, all the way up to a 600+ HP race motor for $6200.

http://www.supracharged.com/ has info on hard-core offroader guys dropping 7M-GTE Supra engines in the 4-Runners.

I suggest checking out this: http://www.supracharged.com/video/
Some videos from the "Supras Invade Las Vegas 2003" Got a pretty tricked out ForeRunner doing some burnouts.

Also http://www.suprasport.com/suprasport/ca ... efault.php (http://www.suprasport.com/suprasport/catalog/default.php) has a lot more reasonable (IMO) prices than Rabid Chimp.com however I've not heard of anyone buying stuff off of them. However Suprasport.com has ONLY Mark III stuff, so it'd only be applicable to me after I spooned in a 7M-GTE.
