in a way i see it as being to much, because they arested people just because they were there.. But then again if they wasnt there it prolly wouldn't have been happening, but since someone just died from doing the same thing.. They should have smartened up.. And not been there.. :?

While that is a pretty heavy law, its sounds good to me.

(didn't I just say something about So.Calif racing the other day?)

Fined, car impounded and wrecked....that's good.

Believe it or not, WE live in bumpkinville. (MOV) While some ppl street race around here, its not the huge epidemic like it is in LA county, San Diego Co. and other major cities. (FYI, Van Nuys is part of LA county)

So.Calif has incredible traffic problems. Its rare that you can go on the Freeways or highways (we call em interstates here) without seeing some traffic within a mile. So the argument of "there wasn't anybody around" hardly exists.
More ppl, more idiots on the streets. LA county has close to or more than 10 MILLION ppl. Public transportation is a joke there too. EVERYONE has a car..its a big status thing.

Spectating is definately "promoting" even if you don't have a car there.

While I believe that's a pretty tough law (some Calif cities have had that kind of law for over 10 yrs.), its what needs to be done to cut down on the problem.

Luckily, more and more drag strips have opened up for fun runs etc..This has helped but then there's always those who gotta prove something off the track too.

Fines/jail time/community service

That would be a start.

I gurantee that around the next corner there are drug dealers and prositutes, do they have there cars smashed?

I think a Dui is more hazordous than street racing, but you don't see them having there cars totaled do you?

Regardless of the reason, I think its absolutly wrong. Punishment is one thing, but there needs to be a line drawn.... 8)

I totally agree with adam...and I think I read somewhere that like a total of 12 drag stips have closed in California within the past couple years. I'll look for the article I read. I in no way will publicly talk about how streetracing is the best thing in the world, however, I think those people had their rights infringed upon in a big way. Do drug traffickers get their boats sank?....um I think not.

And are you saying that if I buy a Mischief DVD that I'm supporting street racing? You might as well go on to say that I support fast cars, which drug dealers drive, who import their drugs from other countries which terrorist run....omg I support terrorism, omg it's my fault that 9/11 happened cause I support street racing(lol bad commercial) lol *shoots self*

rises from dead, "btw what is everyone getting into tomorrow"

In a distant way, yes. They receive more money from DVD sales and will make more "hazardous" videos. Heck I think their antics are entertaining but are very dangerous.

Spectating a street race does not make you as guilty as the idiots driving, but it does "promote" it. Of course there are street races just between the 2 drivers and nobody watching, but its obvious that certain law makers want to make this a "huge" issue and made that spectator clause.

Yes, there are much larger issues on the street today, most notably drunk driving and it would be nice if there was something more to be done about that.

Like I said above, since we live here and not there, some people do not understand that street racing (2F2F style) is a larger issue in bigger cities and made more glamorious due to the ricer street racing movies in the last few years.

"

You do know that many boats and cars are claimed on warrants by the ATF, DEA and sold back to the public? (P.S. sometimes you can find some great deals if you are willing to pay cash, shhh, don't tell anyone)
