They say in the clip that they are world champions on the fastest bikes if they win the moto gp 500?

I don't understand how a 500cc bike, is gonna be faster than a 1000 or 1300 cc.

Could someone please explain? Why don't they use faster bikes? 8)

Before MotoGP they were 2 stroke 500cc engines. Wickedly fast with huge technology built into each engine. The only problem was that those engines had almost nothing to do with the street bikes. The 500cc were faster and quicker than even the larger superbikes...more money had something to do about this but so did the lighter weight...think of the Lotus Elise, and why its faster than soo many cars 8)

So MotoGP turned the 500cc engines into 4 cyclinder 4 strokes and bumped them up to around 990cc, with 220bhp at 15,000rpm. Light weight, efficent power delivery, high tech construction make for the fastest bikes in the world. The new rules made for more competitive machinery including new Mfg.s such as, Proton, Aprillia, ducati and kawasaki.
V. Rossi has been king in MotoGP the last few years. While many people thought it was just because he had the best team and bike (Honda repsol) he then went to arch rival Yamaha and kicked everybody's butt again...this past week he secured yet another title.

Superbikes screwed around with their rules, ticked off the Jap Mfg's and now Superbikes have no real factory support except for the mighty Ducati V-twins that have dominated for so many years. Superbikes are also heavy and and cumbersome to haul around the track. (or at least the 4 cyclinder Hondas and Yamaha's...V-twins have a distinct speed advantage here)

I haven't watched as much motoGp as I use to. I was fortunate enough to meet the legendary GP riders; Lawson, Rainey, Schwantz, Mamola, Fogarty, while working at Anderstorp raceway in Sweden. So much fun to watch MotoGP riders. Their skill and bravery is like no other this side of a works rally driver. You should see how fast MotoGP riders go in the rain..it defy's physics.
