Heres story if link doesnt work
The son of NASCAR owner Rick Hendrick was among 10 people killed Sunday when a small plane headed from Concord to Martinsville crashed in Patrick County in Virginia.
Ricky Hendrick, a former NASCAR driver, died in the incident. John Hendrick, Rick's brother, and Kimberly and Jennifer Hendrick, John's twin daughters, also died in the crash.
The plane was en route to Martinsville Speedway for Sunday's Subway 500. Jimmie Johnson was driving the Hendrick car in the race and was the winner.
Officials reportedly lost contact with the plane at about 12:30.
The names of the other people who died in the crash are: Dick Tracey, pilot, Liz Morrison, pilot, Joe Jackson, Jeff Turner, the VP and General Manager of Hendrick Motorsports, Randy Dorton and Scott Latham.

Well it still sucks, and I happen to have a an uncle named Dick Tracey (my last name has an E in it).
Dick Tracy is who you're thinking of (the crime-fighting private-eye/detective whatever)
I wonder what the cause of the crash was, most accidents aren't freak accidents, they're simply a result of a domino effect that was started with "the straw that broke the camels back" kinda situations.

A really sad acccident. The Hendrick family has been thru so much tragedy too.
The pilot was using VFR (which is common in those areas) and I think that dense fog may have been an issue, but its still in full investigation. Nobody knows yet.

I was watching the race yesterday, and was so worried that they were passing news along to Jimmie that it was his family. Its horrible for anyone to have to go through a tragedy like this, I know, but especially to someone as nice of a man as Rick Hendrick.

I don't keep up much on Nascar...but regardless who it happens to, I wish the very best to them in getting through this tough time....especially with the holidays right around the corner..... :(

Its really weird for me. Right before the race, I was re-reading an article about the time Jack Roush was piloting his heilo, crashing in a lake, and some old retired Marine risked his life to save Roush's, essentially bringing him "back to life" (Roush had drowned).

Alan Kuwicki died in a helicopter crash at Bristol a few years back and now this I figured this would happen more often considering the dependence they have on air travel.

Davey Allison also died in his heilo, while flying to Talledega. That whole incident is pretty freaky itself, as his replacement driver, Ernie "Swervin" Irvan, crashed 1 year later at Michigan, and sustained the same injuries (swelling of the brain) that killed Allison.
Irvan, according to the doctors, should have died. Instead, he turned around and exactly 3 years later, at Michigan, got in a car and won the race.
Some of this stuff is inspirational...
