OK.... I keep hearing about these things. I want one. But I need some advice as to how many hours I need. I assume the general hour figure is at low resolution, correct? What is the ratio to get the high resolution figure? Meaning 40hrs(low res) x constant = YYhrs(high res).
Where should I buy one?
Any suggestions?
Also, do I need to have a land-line phone? Cause, I don't.

Good q's...
I wouldn't go totally overboard on the hrs. I have 35 hrs on my Directivo (satellite receiver and Tivo together) and have only "maxxed" out the hrs. like 3 times, and this was when I was saving all the Sopranos episodes or Band of Brothers episodes etc..
(I have the older version/series 1 Tivo..and there really isn't a quality setting)
The new series2 might have a quality setting. The only problem with Tivo on a large screen like you have is that it might show some artifacts or "lower type resolution" pixelation. This is just the nature of owning a large screen and watching compressed video. (from what I hear it is not too bad)
I have a 27'' TV and it works great on it. I think I'm getting rid of my DirecTV so I can get broadband internet access at home. Then I'll have to get rid of my DirecTiVo and get the newer series 2 Tivo that operates on cable alone. My wifey would kill me if I didn't get a new Tivo...and she is not a gadget geek at all! Tell the wifey...not to worry, they will love this wonderful piece of equimpment.
Great for kids too as you can store their favorite morning cartoon on Tivo and watch it anytime. This has been especially handy with my little 2 yr. old as he sometimes gets a little crazy at night and mommy and daddy are trying to work on some project...we then just turn the "the wiggles, house of mouse, bear and blue house..etc...you know the drill:)
I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do with my HT and Tivo. A 92"-110" screen (16:9) is really going to blow-out the artifacts on picture quality if I use the standard Tivo. (unfortunately Tivo's new HD Tivo is only for the directivo combo:()
What I might have to do, and might be the same for you with your large screen is to get a video line doubler to help with the image clarity. In the mean tme I might just put the new Tivo upstairs on our 27" (for wifey and kids)and have my downstairs HT with just the cable box. (no Tivo)
The new Series 2 has ethernet connection (even wireless if you are brave) for updating the TV guide scheduling...so it doesn't require a land-line connection lie my current Tivo.
I'll check some online places for purchasing. pricegrabber.com might be one.
Heck, Adam works at CC...maybe he can give us a discount for us "family" members!!!!!!!!!!!! Yo Adam you there???!!! Help us!!

This was my plan. I can always experiment and someday get two if it works good enough on the big screen. TiVo is supposed to be making it possible to share from TiVo to TiVo over your home network(not avaliavle yet).

He used to, but not any more. Justin still works there though  . Tivo has factory refurbed Series2 40HR units for 99 bucks. Thats a steal considering I can upgrade the HD if need be.

Weeee. $99!! nice. That's from Tivo directly right? Are they actually series 2's??!!
The HD's are fairly simple and just run a linux OS. Easy to mod and fix. (however I've never done it) Amazing how stable these Tivo's are considering the are "on" 24/7

I had a few buddies that were into Tivo's and such. The big thing in college was to "mod" them to be able to rip the video onto a Dvd. So in essence you could copy any movie on tv or your favorite show, and burn it on a Dvd for later.....There is alot of forums out there similar to ours that will answer every question you have and walk you through modding it....Good luck.... 8)

You can always get the one with the smallest HD and hack it by getting the biggest HD you can find and dropping it in people have done this and have gotten MAD recording time!
