ok..I figure while I am rebuilding my engine, I might as well see if I can rework the head some...get an extra 1k out of it.

I have heard this and am curious what everyones take on it is.

Since Itr, Gsr and Si have the same retainers, I do not need to replace those.

Valves will remain stock.

Cams will remain stock.

Move my intake springs to the exhaust side.

Buy new Itr intake springs and call it a day.

The "new turbo" will be able to breath above 8500 so that won't be a problem.

Thinking of having my license plate say "REV 2 9K".... :woot:

Is this doable...? 8)

I don't know why it wouldn't be possible, butt why would the intake springs be stiffer than the exhaust springs, or why would you move them?

I was wondering the same. I don't really see the point. Valve springs are precisely calibrated to the valve it's used on. I wouldn't go just swapping, but I doubt there's much of a difference.

Here is the reason.

For example, an integra type r exhaust cam and Civic Si intake cam are the same.

If I wanted type r cams, I could just swap my intake cam to my exhuast side and buy a new intake type r intake cam.

So, with alot of reading, I have learned the same is true about the valve springs.

Evidently the Si/Type R/Gsr retainers are exactly the same. Only difference is the valves and the springs.

That allows me to keep my exisiting retainers, swap the intake springs to the exhuast side and get new intake springs.....

The type r springs are of an oval design and doubled as opposed to the single design my have. This keeps "valve floating" to a minimum @ higher rpms.

Hope that clears it up...just wondering if there is anything I am forgetting.... Are there any special tools I will need befiore I tackle this...8)

I gotcha. Special tools though? Like what? Valve spring compressor? Is that what you mean?

Yea..since I have never taken a head apart....wondered if there is anything special I will need.... 8)

Valve spring compressor is about all the special tools you will need. Everything else is 10, 12 and 14mm bolts.

As for the Si intake cam being the same as the ITR exhaust cam, I can't say one way other the other... don't suppose you can site sources with pictures can you?

I'm trying to remember when I had my b16 apart whether the exhaust cam had the slots for a distributor in it. I think the length was identical, but one was marked "EX" and the other was marked "IN" (meanings being obvious.)

I have seen that mentioned many times...when I come across it again, I will post up info for everyone.... 8)

Yeah. valve compressor is it. May be a bit tricky with the angle that you have to get them out at. So use a head stand if you have one around. Or something that can hold it off the table to where you can get underneath it. NOW REMEMBER! THERE IS A TORQUE sequence to remove AND install your cams. STart from the center and work your way out in a spiral pattern. I've seen people snap cams in half by just going straight out. Too much stress in one spot and BAM! Ha ha ha. So just remember the order man.

Yeah there's nothing like having Marietta Ignition snap an intake HKS racing cam for a 2JZ-GTE (94 Supra TT engine) because the idiot didn't bother to read the piece of paper in the box indicating the EXACT torque sequence for the cams.

I'll most likely not being taking much to them in the future. I've had ok service, however my buddy Chris they dicked over pretty bad. Mtta. Ignition had the head for over 5 months.... Just for a port polish & new cams (I believe this is what Chris had wanted them to do).. Never got it finished either.

Curious what a good port and polish on a b16a head would cost?

I'll do a good job for a cheap price man! Nothing TOO much that you can expect out of a honda head for improvement. They are pretty ported already as well as gasket matched to the fullest.

No no no. Ignition does some pretty good machine work. But yes, they do make mistakes as well. Ha ha ha. But if you are dealing with parts deal with a gentleman named josh rinard. He's a young kid but he'll get you what you need.
