If you wanna go, to watch or to participate, we'd love for you to come along. We(Davis, Kurt and I) usually meet-up at the rest area just S of Mineral Wells about 8:30AM(right?). Let us know if you wanna go, so we can wait on you. Registration is over at 10:30. Timed runs start at 11. It's usually over by 5:00. Usually 4-5 timed runs per entrant. You are allowed to share a car(no, you can't share mine).

Things to bring(spectating or racing):
chair
sun block
FRS radio tuned to the movFast.com channels http://www.movfast.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=72
money(gas, food)

Things to bring if you're gonna run:
Car
$20 for registration(15 if a SCCA member)
Driving skills (really... some people forget these at home?!?! :dunno:
)

If you're the slightest bit interested in cool cars, you should come down. Any car enthusiast should at least attend if not participate in at least one SOLO II event(autocross).

Ditto that. If you have never seen an autocross before, this is the time to do it! If you want to race, bring our stuff (as well noted by Robbie above).

If you want to watch, that might be even better as you will then have a better outside understanding of what is going on.

I will give rides to any MovFast member during the race. (75% chance I'll make this event..baby on the way..) You learn an awful alot by riding along with somebody during the autocross. I'll bring my extra helmet too if you do not already have one.

Robbie does a very good job representing the turbo AWD "club". He's usually at the very top in times....if anything at all...go and see him race:)

Honestly, there is a great mix of cars at the event. You will be amazed at how some of the more "economy friendly" cars will actually put in better laps than big bad V8's!

If somebody doesn't want to drive down but does want to see the event, I can pick you up...please let me know well in advance thou:)

June 20th is a Sunday right? I may go down myself, however neither of my cars will be ready to go. I'd love to watch the charleston group to see how they do it, as compared to the MOV region in Columbus.

I will probably be going, so if someone needs a ride down, please let me know so we can arrange for you to ride to the event.

I won't be able to make it on the 20th, due the fact i'll be in Alabama...when is the next autocross weekend???...I am dying to take the EVO out to stretch its legs...

On a different note...I am taking a sony vid camera w/me on the trip down there and I will hopefully come back with some good footage, my g/f will be doing the shooting, so if it comes back crappy...

No prob. More than happy to give anybody a ride. I usually meet Kurt at his house in Marietta at 8:00 or so. WE probably need to get to the rest stop just south of Mineral Wells a little bit early.
We can work out the details a little later.

(I'm 90% sure I'm going)

Runs well. I'm looking forward to the results being posted. I suspect I think I did better then I really did, but it was fun anyway.

Front swaybar is too big and needs to go. Definitely need to get the A/C back in. The 4700-5000 rpm on highway thing takes some getting used to but its a great car overall. It feels more stable then the HB every did.

First time was 1.28.xxx
2nd and 3rd were 1.26.xxx
4th was 1.24.853
final was 1.24.45x

I figure if I had run some more fun runs it would have been better.

Of course Robbie and Davis did well, at least 6 seconds faster then my fastest time.

Sounds like you guys did well.

Hope everyone had fun....I didn't get to make it.. :(

Started working on my brakes, stripped the little screw that holds the rotors on....well I left it apart last night and took a break...ended up going to bed...I get up this morning to go, and I walk down...and see my car still on the jack... :x

So I rush to get everything abck on, next thing I know, look @ the clock its almost 8:30....so I came back upstairs and went to bed....

Woke back up @ noon or so went to my grandpas for fathers day and a cook out.

Worked on the stripped screw there and after it was all said and done, I had all four rotors on with new pads...so overall my day went pretty well, even though I missed the auto..

I gurantee I will be @ the next one...... 8)

You had all day to come up with a good excuse and the best you could do was that you let a nonessential screw “screw” up you day? That’s pretty bad man! JFWY

You’re not the only one who missed the bus, Joe overslept and missed his ride too.

Hell, I even overslept, but I woke up in “Man on a mission” mode and hit the ground cussing and running.

I hate to rub it in....

But you guys missed a great event!

Picture perfect weather and a good mix of cars (but not too many cars) were the right ingredients for awesome racing.

The course itself was both challenging yet rewarding when done right.

Robbie usually gets out very fast from his first run on. (I gotta ask him how he does that:)) He also had FTD (fast time of the day) for a long time until a heavily modified RX-7 and Mustang got their act together. (Don't know official results yet thou..)

Kurt had a great showing in his new CRX. It sounded great and I think he did much better than he thinks. It was fast on course.

I blew my first run (we get 4 total) and went off course/missed gate. My second run was ok but tagged a pylon. Finally I was able to piece it together on my 3rd run and my 4th was my fastest at 1.18.1 (.2 behind Robbie:))

Then we have time we get fun runs. Tim Grubb sat in the co-driver seat and we blasted thru the course...lots of fun and always exciting to hear somebody who hasn't been thru a course before.

Jeremy went for a ride in Robbie fast EVO and came back wide-eyed:)
Its also a time that other people can drive your car and mix it up a little. (if you want)
Jerry (FTD Cobra Mustang) and I will exchange cars at the next event for fun runs as I look forward to see what the Stang will do on the course. (I rode in his car at the Payne Engineering event...by far the best handling Stang I've been in)

I hope to get the videos up sometime this week. It usually takes me about 10 hours to edit, render and upload the content to the site. I'll let you guys know when they come online.

Special thanks to Tim and Jeremy for taking a bunch of pics at the event. The club will sirely be thankful for that!
I talked with a pro photographer at the event. He had a really nice $$$ Nikon D60 or D100 (?) and took more than 600 pics...we exchanged contact information and I hope to get it online and organized sometime soo. Yes, 600 pics+!

All in all it was a fantastic event. I imagine the July event will probably be good too. I won't be able to make it as I'll have a new addition to the family but I'll be awaiting the reviews. With my luck it will probably rain and I'll miss the chance to maybe see a AWD top three.

Joe and Adam....you need new alarm clocks!

sounds like a blast...The weather was beautiful yesterday, and not too hot or humid. I'm glad to hear it was a good event. That's a long time to capture/edit/upload..what do you use as a capture device? Also, where has Robbie been on here?

I upload my video footage (many times 1hr or so) to the Pinnacle Software. Then I do lots of editing, titles, and convert to AVI. From there I use MS Media Encoder and compress that file from AVI to WMV. Then I take that compressed video, upload it to the site and make necessary website changes. And that was just for one video edit. Many times I have 4-12 videos that I upload. Its gets rather comprehensive especially when you have so many where it is easier to make mistakes. Lots of time and lots of space for video editing.

Then I do 100-150 pics....same thing over again, just a little bit faster.

:(

Lol, I understand what you mean about the excuse.

You ruined my whole day by not showing up cause I was already to pick on you all day long ;)

Honestly though, yesterday's event was nice for several reasons: the turnout was lower then usual due to Father's Day and the weather was really nice (sunny and cool.) I doubt we will have such good weather at next month's event, as it will likely be a roaster...but we shall see. You can attend whenever you have the oppertunity basically.

ShortysTRM
06-21-2004, 12:53 PM
a. why don't we sanction our own events? Surely someone would let us use their parking lot.... and b. why is a small turnout a good thing? I can see a few reasons why, but in all honesty, if you still get the same number of runs but have less "competition" and get to see less automobiles perform thier dance moves, then wouldn't it be less entertaining? I mean, if I would've been racing, I woulda told everyone to turn their heads or divert their eyes, since I've never autocrossed before and would likely suck. But, if I was comfortable driving my car around the course, I would love to have a big crowd. And about the Spa Yellow NSX: it was being trialored by a Tahoe or Yukon with TheDriversEdge.net on the back windshield. Well, that's a racing organization in Texas...? WTF? The site shows some really nice cars competing, like Ferrari 360's and Porsches, but shows no Yellow NSX's. I wonder if he had just bought it or something?

I would like to bring mine, too. I figure we'll end up driving the Alero, since we usually do and I trust its reliability to get me there and back more than I do mine. I would love to auto-x but I need to drive around the course first to see if I could do it without losing a $600 front bumper, as I don't have the money to replace it, not even with a stock one. I also don't know how much I trust my brakes and cooling system. I need to stop bitchin and start auto-x'ing. I need experience.

Just make sure it passes tech.

If you are in question of the brakes..get em fixed before you AutoX. Heck, get them fixed for the street. Brakes take a beatin' on track.

FYI, I lost about 1/3 of my brakes at Mid-Ohio from heavy braking. Especially from 130-45mph at the end of the straight. However, I was able to outbrake many (including E60 M3's) so I value brakes about as much as I do the steering wheel.

ShortysTRM

what all do they check in Tech? I'd feel pretty lame if I failed it. My brakes are small discs in the front and drums in the back. The back ones probably need changed, but the front ones are new. I had Bendix Titaniumetallix before, and I got Performance Friction Carbon Metallic this time. It stops well, but I was kind of concerned with warping my rotors since they are quite small. My car only weighs about 2800 lbs., so it's not exactly heavy, but it still worries me since it's my daily driver. I would kind of like to strip my car down to see how much weight I could lose. MY cooling system worries me sometimes, but it's probaly nothing to worry about. It has a 160 degree t-stat and when it gets up to the temp it used to stay at, I get worried. My car now has like 101,000 miles on it, so I would like to know what all needs maintenance performed. I have run fuel injector cleaner through it a few times recently, but I think I may have the service department at the dealership I work at clean my injectors with their machine because my car is still idling a little rough. Anyone have anything to say/recommend?

Brakes, engine, body are somewhat carefully looked at.
I haven't really had to worry about it since I've had a new car for awhile  and its not modified.

Kurt, would be a better one to post this question concerning tech inspection....his cars aren't necessarily new:)heheh and they are modded just slightly.

I just swapped rotors and brakes....lovin it...huge difference coming from little to no pads and oem blanks, to upgraded pads and brembo slotted/cross drilled...love em...

My whole brake swap only took me a few hours...with a few minor problems...I could do it again, so fast now.....experience rules!!!

Off the shelf injector cleaner sucks. Don't waste your time or money.

Your injectors could prolly use cleaning/balancing/flow testing. The next best thing to going to your dealer is something called "Seafoam". Pick it up @ your local Autozone/Advanced. You put a 1/3 in your gas tank, a 1/3 in your oil, and a 1/3 into a direct vacuum into your intake manifold. Be prepared for it to smoke for a few. Also plan on doing it a few days to a week before you change your oil. B/c you are going to loosen up alof of carbon debris, don't want it floating around.

Otherwise good as new.

Davis:

I used to have a simple gadget called a "dazzle". Not the best, but it served me quite well. I wanted to get firewire, and a mini dv camera but car mods always came first it seemed. As far as converting from avi, mpg or wav, I would google it up and download shareware versions for free...after a few trial runs I would use the best one.

Simple...you will be surprised what a Hi-8 sony camcorder a $100 usb dazzle unit (borrowed from a friend), and shareware software off the internet can produce...lol.... 8)

wooohooo...I had the Dazzle DVC 80 on my old computer and now I have a DVC 150 on my Vaio. I can capture in mpg2 at DVD quality. What would they look at on your body? I have seen some beaters at auto-x, bondo and all. I have thought about getting new slotted rotors, but I'm not sure if they're worth it. Also, other than Brembo, I dunno what companies to trust. Ractive makes some for my car, but I don't know if I trust my life in the hands of Ractive parts lol. Slots and holes make for less surface area, but "better cooling", so I dunno what to do. I have actually read a statement from Dodge and a large aftermarket brake company (Baer I think) that said that they have seen no adavantage of cross-drilling in testing, and I know that it makes your rotor more prone to cracking  . I actually heard of Seafoam on another forum recently, but they were putting the whole can through their vaccuum hose. My car has no cat, so I'm sure it will smell like potpourri if use that stuff lol. They had said to change your oil and possibly your cat after using it. I went to autozone and asked about it, and they said Napa carries it.

Feedman
06-21-2004, 05:55 PM
If your car is really in need of cleaning, yes you can run the whole can through, instead of breaking it up. Totally up to you. I bought a can either @ Advance or Auto Zone here in Vienna where I live. I would try one of the two. Napa will prolly have it but be more expensive...I think I paid like ~6 bucks... 8)

As far as the rotors go, I have heard several "stories" but from my experience I have had no ill problems. So I was hooked. Of course I have never autocrossed with a set, so who knows about how they will stand up then? Although I have done several stops from 100+ before...and they hold up find and are resistant to fade... 8)

Baer, Brembo, Wilwood are popular brake companies. I would stick with a well known name in something critical as far as breaking.... 8)

Exactly how I feel about it, too. I know I'd look like an ass if I just tried to hurl my car around the course, and to be honest, that's all I know how to do. I know how my car is balanced in "spirited" driving, but I have no idea what happens when you push it as hard as it will go. I really look forward to it, but I also fear what my first few runs will look like.
