Now that I am in the process of working on my engine...what is the best for cleaning off my cams/head/block etc. I don't want anything to rust while I store it.
Any help...
Thanks all.... 8)

Light coat of oil. As for cleaning I sent my stuff to get baked, baking cleaned my parts very very well.

Yeah, thats generally what I use. For small parts they make cans of solvent that you can let the parts soak in.
I wouldn't bother cleaning them till your ready to put them back in unless they have gotten wet. For now just make sure they are well oiled to prevent corrosion.

Motor oil works well. Something heavy enough not to run off but light enough to clean off easily. WD40 evaporates too fast and grease is too hard to clean off, so something in between. 10w40 would probably work well. Keep the stuff covered up while its out to prevent a lot of dust and grit from accumulating on it.

Over on the land of SI's they said to just get some lightweight oil and spray it out of a spray bottle.
treed: yeah, the brakleen is to clean off the oil.

VARSOL! I have a varsol tank at my garage if you really have a lot to get clean. It will save you cans and cans of time. HOT TANK that damn head while you're at it. Marietta ignition should have a hot tank for aluminum. You'll never get it as clean as that can.

i have always used carb cleaner or something along those lines...seems to work for getting the tough grease off pretty well.
