I'm not going to turn this into a Pro Bush or Pro Kerry spiel. However.. People that are of legal & lawful age that don't vote WILLINGLY need smacked in my opinion. It's the ONLY TIME you ever get to exert your desires to change the way the government works, and voice your opinion with some actual leverage. Every SINGLE VOTE counts.
 wtf why WOULDN"T You vote?

Why you ask. B/c I don't believe my vote matters. I think that voting for local/public offices are important. Mayor, senate, Governor, etc. Not the Presidency. This is the first election since 1988 that the canidate has won both the majority and the electoral college. Thats complete B.s. If it were decided on the popular vote only, then ok....but until then, I don't beleive in the system, therefore I don't participate.

For example: Hypothetical use only: Assuming only 2 states in the Country.

California - Pop. 35 million. Voted 11 million. (Elect. Votes 55).
Ohio - Pop. 11 million. Voted 1.2 million . (Elect Votes 20).

Lets say that the Popular Vote in California falls this way:
Kerry - 5,600,000
Bush - 5,400,000

Ohio fell this way.
Bush - 1,000,000
Kerry - 200,000

Result: Kerry Wins the Presidency w/55 Electorial Votes. Bush wins the Popular vote with a total of 6.4 million + while Kerry would see less than 5.8 million. Almost a million less people wanted Kerry, yet he would still be the won running the country....hmm..something doesn't seem kosher to me.....???

So the the nation for the people isn't always "for the people"....understand... 8)

So you have a couple of people that have that dumb thinking like you are stating and this is what happens.

Not picking on you because there are alot of people who think this way. Ok lets say Ohio comes down to around 1000 votes that seperate Bush and Kerry now it would be fair to say that there are at least 1000 people who think that their vote doesnt count (I would say more people) Now easily these people if they voted could swing one canidate or another 20 electorial votes.

Very very true.

The whole electorial college thing is such a joke IMHO. 8)

Ali G is my hero...

and florida last year is the perfect example...it came down to like 537 people that Bush won by...Florida just happened to be one of the deciding states too, essentially making 538 people out of over 100 million total that voted that kept Gore from winning.

You can look at it from a bunch of different angles, butt the resultant answer is everyone should vote.

I use to think just have the popular vote only..winner takes all.

BUT, that is not good.

Electoral college is needed.
If I were to run for pres (scary thought I know) and the popular vote was the only way to count, then I would just concentrate on NYC, Miami, Atlanta, LA, Chicago, Houston and maybe 5 other major sities with huge populations. I might as well just forget about middle America (including MOV). Do you think that issues important to us here are the same as those in big huge sities? That's how it would be decided in that type voting system.

Agreed, eveyone needs to vote. It does matter ans is the only equal voive that we have that can decide on a person who will run our country as well as many many other small yet important roles.
