Well after days and days of abusive wear on my stock clutch, it has been decided that i need to invest and get new one. Well i went through all the decisions and finally got an Exedy Full Faced Organic Disc with Heavy Duty Pressure plate and 9.1 lb Exedy Chromoly Flywheel.

Now its been all day and i still have yet got my tranny dropped. Its been alot of fun lemme tell ya.

But in the end it should be worth the effort.

Thanks adam,

I just now got the pressure plate, disc and flywheel in and im about to have some fun aligning the tranny with the output shaft on the crank.

I dont think ill get all of it done today but tomarrow morning im not going to school (AutoTech) to get this done and over with. So then i should update you guys with pics here in about an hr. The clutch needs a 750mi break in. so itll be awhile till i can see what er' can do.

Update:

Here are some pics of the work in progress. These pics are somewhat outdated due to having the tranny back in and bolted up. But you can see what is going on.

Update 11/04/04:
When i took the passenger side wheel off i noticed grease everywhere around my wheel well and brake lines and LCA. I found out that my CV Boot was split. So i went to AutoZone and bought a replacement boot (not the cheap Speedi Boots that just snap together) i got the one where you have to take apart the axle to slide the boot on.

I also noticed that the inner CV Boot was weathered and very close to splitting. So ive called everywhere and no one seems to have the outer (tranny side) CV boot. If they do carry it it will have to be ordered. I decided to get the one from NAPA which is a good OEM replacement, not the speedi-boot style.

Im glad i saw that and i am able to replace it at such a good time since the axle is already out of the hub and tranny. Its better to do it now than wait till later where i have to do it all over again.

I got up early this morning to work on the teg and to no avail it was raining, what a shatty day. I cant believe that all i have to do is replace the starter, slave cylinder, intake, header, and axles and id be done, but oh no it has to rain.

So tommarow is the day that i should finally have the teg back. Supposively its gonna be 56 and partly cloudy. So maybe, just maybe ill have er' done.

All and all, this is one project i really never wanna do again and hopefully it will pay off.

I will keep you updated as this project progresses.

Here are the pics of my old warn out stock clutch.

Update 11/06/04:

Well i got everything put back together yesterday, and wow what a difference. Pedal pressure is very firm and stiff than stock It takes a lil bit of muscle to push the pedal in. The 8.8lb flywheel is awesome. The rev's fall fast and rev's very quick. I just cant wait till i can get into it. This is gonna be the longest 750mi ever for the teg.

Going from a old warn out stock clutch, which hardly even grabbed, i mean i was scared to start out on hills thinking my clutch would give out but it didnt.

I am also using GM Syncromesh, combined with the new clutch, shifting is much smoother and the gears fall into place nicely. Its like driving a whole new car and lemme tell you its fun.

Ok, here is how it falls into place.

The clutch I bought was for 130% increase over stock. Cm Stage III

So a b16a2 makes 111 ft lbs of tq. To make it easy we will round down to 100lbs @ the wheels for arguements sake.

So if it was only 100% over stock, the clutch would be good for 200 ft lbs to the wheels. Then add another 30% and you are around 230ish to the wheels...

Make any since....?? 8)

Well guys i got 195mi on the new clutch, only 555mi to go for the break in. I cant wait till i can cut er' lose. In the mid RPM's the car accelerates faster and really starts pickin up around 4000.

Im still not use to how fast the clutch grabs and how i have to shit a little faster because the revs drop quicker than that of stock. I kinda jerk the car through the gears sometimes cause the revs have to pick back up if i let the clutch out too late. but ill get use to it.

yeah it doesn't give more torque it is just guaranteed to grab even if you do have x% of more torque over stock.

I think i might invest in a nice stainless steel braided clutch line for a more precise pedal feel. My stock rubber hose is starting to dry rot and crack. I couldnt imagine how much it bulges out whenever i push the pedal. I also need to still adjust pedal freeplay and the clutch master cylinder pushrod. Its so tempting to go WOT and see what it can do but i aint trying to ruin this clutch.
