So I'm thinking of picking up the new Motorola Droid from Verizon when it comes out. I have an iPod Touch and love it and wanted to get an iPhone, but then I heard about this phone.
Tell me about droid.
Do you like droid?(Pros and cons)
How is their 'app store'? Prices? Good range of apps?
Any of you come from or gone to an iPod touch or iPhone?

Well since the droid isnt out yet...

iPhone sucks balls period.
Let me tell you how much i hate it.
I still have a contract on my iphone 1g which i got when it first came out and gave it to my best friend and hes used it ever since....

iphone = suck

I have a blackberry bold and it rules.
Doesnt have all the cool quirky games/apps the iphone does but it doesnt fuck up constantly either.
I can view excel sheets ect.

The Pre will be available on Verizon supposedly in January.

The Pre has some serious speed issues, Web OS can be slow as balls. I have friends with them and they grit their teeth when they talk about it because they really love the phone otherwise.

Palm announced via engadget or one of those other blogs that they have a fix coming, so that should help things out a bit.

I'm pretty interested in the Droid, however the full reviews are out and it has it's issues as well.

I want the iPhone 3GS Touchscreen with a droid keyboard and Palm's text messaging interface. Can we make that happen? :banghead:

I like, uh, making calls. It's really cool that they're developing the tech for this stuff, but, a swiss army phone I don't need. I bought a blackberry because it was the only phone at the store that didn't feel like it was made of paper.

I just saw where Verizon is going to be doubling their early termination fee from $175 to $350 on 11/15/2009. So if you're going with Verizon you'd better be sure you're going to stay til your contract is over. That is total BS!

Doubling ETF is only on "advanced" aka smart phones and only if you take a new contract after that date, or so the article read that I skimmed over today.

Still, a complete bunch of horseshit.

However, I can see whey they were doing it. You get a phone for $100 + $175 ETF you can still turn a healthy profit on a new phone on eBay for 350+.

Conveniently going into effect on the date that Driod debuts.

My biggest complaint w/Bold is web surfing. Due to it not being a touchscreen phone the screen is so small it just does not make for a feasable web surfing device.

Wow that's an interesting comparison, very good info man. Thanks.

Given the issues with the Pre that need fixed, it's not even really a contender at the moment. I always just assumed that the total cost of ownership of the iPhone would be way higher, but never really looked into it... but it's a few pennies less overall than the Droid. And no mail in rebate or insane ETF fee.

Too bad I can't get AT&T service at my house, and I don't think their microcell device is available here yet. Hmm maybe I'll just stick to my blackberry curve til something better comes along.

Im getting the Droid here this weekend, or friday of next week, whenever I have time I guess. I will compare it side by side with a friends iPhone 3GS. I was totally against getting a smartphone plan, but I can cancel my current alltel account with no ETF since its going to be a verizon plan. Plus, my work has an employee discount of 17% off the phone and my plan so I can get it for cheaper than im paying now.

The droid is amazing, thousands of free apps, ringtones, and all kinds of stuff. the WiFi picks up really nicely.

For the gaming side, keep in mind, the itouch is a terrible gaming platform. It's a massive install base, and that reason alone keeps major developers building games for it. I've got brick breaker, that's all I need.

Also is the Nexus a droid?????

InterceptorXR7
01-12-2010, 12:06 AM
The nexus is not a Droid, since thats what Motorola calls its Android based phones. It does have Android 2.1 where as the HTC Droid Eris has android 1.6 and the Motorola Droid, which ive had for more than a week now, has Android 2.01. The Nexus will also have a 1ghz processor compared to the Droid's 600mhz processor (which is underclocked to 550mhz to conserve power) I dunno what kind of processor the HTC Droid Eris has, probably some qualcomm crap.

Heres a picture I took with my droid

Kinda off topic but it was taken with the droid. I woke up this morning to some ducks worshiping the miata.

One more negative for the iPhone is it won't be getting mobile Flash. I've got a Pre and we're supposed to get a beta version of Flash this month and the final version in February.

As far as the all the problems that need fixed??? I've had mine since June and haven't had any issues with it at all. Plus they finally got the GPU enabled for applications now and started releasing 3D games for it!!!

Adobe and Apple had some sort of falling out before the iPhone was completed, then patched their relationsihp upl lol.

The main difference between the iPhone and Droid is the operating system or platform on which they work. iOS and Android are two of the top platforms and user-friendly available today, and both have their strengths and attractive places. Android is growing at a tremendous speed, and it seems only a matter of time before it exceeds the iOS itself, and the main reason for this is the large number of manufacturers of mobile who must work with Android.
