Does anyone know if this engine is a variant of the d-series. Kinda curious cause I found a zc tranny for 100 bucks..and it has almost as close of gears as the si/ex tranny..much better than the dx anyways.
I thought maybe they were similar because I know to put it in a CRX you don't need any hasport mounts or anything and same with the d-series. At least that is what I was under the impression of.

The zc engine is a dseries very similar to the d16a1 but will swap into a 2nd gen crx with no problem. The tranny is just like the si but with a little closer gear set. The zc tranny will bolt right in and you can use a d series with it. Most people will make a hybrid tran and use a zc gear set with a si or hf 5th gear and final drive. And no the zc dohc head will not fit any other d series (you didnt ask but many do).

that's awesome! It's cool though that the zc head won't work cause the d15b head is supposed to be the best flowing d-series head out there, plus it has a little more agressive cams, which is why it's 130hp while the vtec d16 is only like 125-127 and is larger. Also from what I've read, the d15b has the best rod/stroke ratio of the d-series..(comparable to the b16) which makes it a happy booster. Plus, for some odd reason, it's the cheapest d-series you can buy at a lot of places....couple that with an unlimited amount of zc trannies for 100 bucks...I think I've made my engine choice.

What D15 are you talking about there are about 50 different ones. Dont remember any being 130hp but the JDM ones and they were VTEC. Everywhere I have heard the D16A6 has the best flowing head but some D15s share the same head but have a different cam.
daveb91

Ahh looking at another website you are talking about a JDM D15B vtec. Which is a 1.5l with a Z6 head on it with a better cam and 9.6 c/r.
Also the D15b is rated at 130 ps. PS is not hp.
PS is Metric Horsepower.
SAE Horsepower = 1.0138697 Metric Horsepower (ps)
130ps=128.2216hp
Not a big difference but just to let you know JDM-EDM motors are rated different.
Thats why Im the JDM Master

everywhere I see says 130 hp...nothing about ps
wouldnt that be kinda like doin the mini-me head swap on a crx?
I was gona do that on mine but i ended up sellin it

yeah basically the same thing, butt the d15b vtec has the best factory sohc cam honda ever made or something...It's supposed to be similiar to a Nitrous cam that Zex makes or something.

Mini me would give you more power do to the higher compression ratio. And people just put 130hp but its actually ps. Any EDM or JDM motor is rated ps.
narfdanarf
11-07-2004, 06:22 PM
There is no way in hell a mini me is going to give me 130ps out of a d15..I wouldn't want to do it on a d16 either cause the d15 has a better rod/stroke ratio for boost..plus I don't want the high compression...I am going turdbo..
daveb91
11-07-2004, 06:28 PM
Well he said CRX and since the only motor from a crx worth doing a minime swap is the D16A6 it would give you 130 and then some.
narfdanarf
11-07-2004, 06:36 PM
I know that's why I said I wanted the d15b...about the same hp..cheaper...vtec...lower compression...why not
daveb91
11-07-2004, 06:39 PM
What does advantage does vtec give you whem you boost?
narfdanarf
11-07-2004, 06:40 PM
none really....except it makes it harder to tune. I'm not going to be boosted till after summer...until then only just 130 hp vtec..so it'll be alittle more fun...plus this motor makes a lot of torque for what it is.

You ever consider that the bearings are better in the 1.6s than they are in the 1.5s? Not that i havent seen nicely boosted d15 though.
narfdanarf
11-07-2004, 07:07 PM
what bearings? I am pretty sure I'm gettin new ones anyways....
whatta you puttin this in a CRX?
narfdanarf
11-07-2004, 07:29 PM
yeah...I think it's an 89...though I'm not sure...I'm getting ready to leave to go get it.
narfdanarf
11-07-2004, 07:31 PM
btw I'm not totally opposed to doing a mini-me swap...I just think it would be cheaper in the long run than buying a vtec head and a SI engine and going from there....maybe if I can find a good deal I'll go that route..in any event I have a couple months before I need to figure that out.
youre gona build an boost a CRX? haha sweet.. you are so taking me for a ride when you get it done.

just got it into the garage...rough shape...butt it doesn't matter cause it's gonna be totally gutted and it was only 150 bucks...checked and it is an 89 though it doesn't have the auto seatbelts like I thought they were supposed to?
btw I promise to take you a ride if you take me a ride in your mustang :P

No CRX ever had automatic seatbelts. The ones built into the doors were called "passive" in that they could be left latched and you could get in and out of the car...I've only seen one person use them like that.

Accelerating
both will be ghandi as soon as I come home from college and start cleaning up/ and getting it ready for paint. I think I'm going to paint it like a Viper GTS blue so it at least stays blue..I just hate sky blue or whatever it is now.

Well my dad is dead set on painting it now for some reason...so I figure we'll do it down in Gary's shop where they have all that high tech equipment. 8) ..he said he will teach us though so I'm excited. As far as the welder goes..my whole car is going to rely on that :D
