Hey I have an 88 trans am with a 305 I am ready to make this thing not suck so bad.. I am seriously considering an SLP cam 480 lift and new valve springs. and on down the road headers and of course a new Y pipe. Does anyone have any other suggestions or comments let me know. I'd really like to try and bring this car to life.

You should meet AshleyCarr (he has the auto body place in Newport). He has the monster Camarro. He (and others here) could give you some ideas I bet.

yea for sure, he could help you out.... the shops just right on Rt. 7 in newport on the right after IGA you'll see it 8)
The main problem with the 305 is the heads absolutely suck. Ive seen 305's built with a nice cam/intake combo and a good set of heads that ran extremely well. You can get the stock heads ported/polished an it will help out alot, but if you have the meens then I'd go on the hunt for a set of 202's.. actually, I think i have a set of 202 dbl hump heads in my garage.. dont remember, I have a DZ302 motor I'll sell ya for the right price tho :D 'for those who dono what that is.. the chevy 302 was made 3 yrs, an only put in the 67-69 Z28' ~ Also have a 383 stroker sittin there doin nothing.
If youre just wantin some cheap/quick add on power id go with..
- headers
- y-pipe and catback
- an electric fan, and ditch the belt driven one
'dont remember for sure, but i think it has the belt driven one right?'
- get an open element k&n filter, i have one of those on my truck
- with the k&n lid on it.. works really well
- 3:73 or 4:10 gears
thats about the cheapest hp gains you can get.. most isnt making more hp as it is freeing up alot of what is allready there. your 305 should be rated around 190hp stock.. ive seen some of them with 4:10's alone that were exceptionally quick. A race car its not.. but you should have no problem what so ever outrunnin stock to minorly modified mustangs. Im rather fond of, alltho alot of ppl arent.. the allmight blue bottle :D Dono if that's your 'cup of tea' but it's allways suited me fine. You would have no problems nor extreme engine wear/tear if you were to run 50-75 shot of nos to the motor.
If youre gona get a new cam, get the specs on it where it starts its hp/torque curve an where it drops off, then find an intake to match it. If you get something that makes good low to mid rpm hp, that would work really well with 4:10's as you would not only have the power off the line but gears that'll launch you out of the hole like a rocket.
Hope this helps out.. if youre lookin for any chevy small block in perticular lemme know I got a whole garage full of them.

Totally agree . If you plan on keeping it Mike, I would free of some of that power you already have. A 50-75 shot would definatly brighten up your day..... 8)

With 89,000 miles on the car would nitrous be of any kind of CHANCE on the motor. I know 50-75 is a smaller shot but still. Think the old girl can handle it? I would love to purge too. Gosh that'd be fun 8)

Well anytime you mod your car past the factory specs there is a CHANCE. If you are the least bit worried, stop now. Otherwise have @ it... 8)

I think a 50-75 shot would be ok....remember though since you're still in school..nitrous will be expensive
I think you should get some new heads or at least get yours ported...that's my opinion
maybe get a ls1 lmao...they ought to be getting cheaper since ls2's are out now

I know a girl, yes, girl.. who had a foxbody w/130k miles on it, an was runnin 100 shot of nos. I really dont think this is typical but it handled it every weekend..
Motors receive wear/tear every day from useage, nos just kinda speeds up the process a tad lol

those also have forged pistons, unless it was a 93. But anyway mike I think you engine would hold a 50-75 shot, the thing is you would just have to be save and not be a dumbass and spray everyday. But with a good cam and a port job that would probably put some life into your car. Oh yeah as with any auto putting some gears in it would also be a big improvement.

The only question I have is...
Dry, wet, or direct port?
Dry, I wouldn't go over 50 (go lean and burn up)
Wet, better stay under 125 (uneven distribution, burn up)
Direct port, the sky is the limit (i.e., upgrade your fuel pump and injectors)
You don't want to mess around with dry nitrous, the power isn't worth it. A good wet setup with all the necessary things for safety will run you around $1000. The kits don't include things like a pressure guage, A/F guage, and other necessities. Best not to risk it, if at all possible.
*buzz* wrong! you can get a wet NOS kit for $500-$600
Also, yes the mustangs do have forged pistons, but be that as it may it's still hard on the bottom end, as well as all components.. so runnin a 100 shot on a motor that high of mileage still impresses me.
Ok econo-box-budget-buildup.. here we go
For about $300 you can get a complete rebuilt kit, which includes new pistons 'get 10.5:1' new seals and bearings delivered to your door. Have your rods reconditioned an pistons connected. $99 for a cam of most any lift/dur, $119 if you get it with lifters. $60 to have your block baked, and I forget how much to have cam bearings put in.. $150 roughly for headwork. $109+ for most intakes, unless you want a high-rise one. I have like 4 aluminum intakes lemme know.
That puts you at $728, of course you will have more odds&ends.. and my pricing is just a rough guestimate as well.. but they are real close. So really for the price of a good wet-kit and having the bttl filled a few times you can have a motor built.
Just a few ideas to ponder over.. dono what your budget is, or what youre willing/wanting to do by way of how far you wana go tearing apart/building, ect. I could prolly hooks you up with a built 350 for about what it would cost you to do all of this too.. its been sittin on the engine stand hanging out. just take my intake/carb off it an bolt up the one of your choise.

I am your man for machining work. But it's going to have to be like RIGHT now if you want it done. I can do it for a good price and it will be done right. Ported and polished heads, bored out, align bored, crank polished, valve job, whatever you need. Let me know if you're interested.
