Set up your router to map a port to your windows machine. Usually port 21. You will need to get a Dns address. I have used http://www.dyndns.org/ before. Good service. What is your net connection, it needs to be "online" all the time. Cable, Dsl.

Most Isp's limit your upload b/c they don't want people sharing data. You are prolly limited to 128 or 256k.....

After that, make the drive accessible by ftp on your server....please be aware this sets you up for all kinds of vulnerbilites. Please visit Microsoft.com to d/l the available patches/updates.

Good luck.... 8)

That's 3 meg down with a 256K up... if it's like mine.

BTW... unless Charter has changed policies in the past couple of years, they forbid running any type of "server". You may wanna look into their "terms and conditions". They used to run checks for servers. How do I know.... I got busted for running a web server.

I used to run an .asp server through Charter service, and they never said anything about it. But that was 4-5 years ago, so maybe they weren't as strict/concerned back then.

Yea, they hate people running servers off of here service. It hogs ALOT of bandwitdh. It not only hurts them but every other user on your node. rememer, cable interenet is a shared service. You are on the same "network" as everyone else. So it will also dramaticlly affect everyone else....

To prevent users from running servers, they periodically change your ip address. The url I gave you above, can adapt to that...so its nothing that hinders your setup.... 8)

what type of stuff are you going to be sharing? I have "3-Mbit" DSL that runs at around 5 -> 7Mbit, I can only upload around 50KB/s though... But I've got 100's of GB of stuff.. depending on what you want. What kinda UL/DL ratio you gonna setup?
